Not to discourage anybody but wanted to give realistic picture about IT situation these days in GTA area. This can be one of the most challenging time to enter SAP or for the matter of fact any computer field.
With economy going down and companies cutting cost, IT is one of the area which top management looks closely and first step is to get rid of consultants.

Almost all consulting companies have put a freeze on hiring and even they are laying off people who are on bench for few months. (Some senior consultants).

Most of the IT institutes are running full and lot of people are taking IT courses on EI or otherwise, which means more supply of IT resources (Experienced and new) in market and very less demand.

Short term prospects are bit bad but i guess as economist are telling that Economy will rebound in 2010, i guess good IT education should payoff in long run.

Well said!

I was going through this post last night and was wondering how many people want to switch to SAP thinking it to be easy way out. It's anything but the 'easy way out.'

With a lot of experienced SAP consultants out their in the market warming up their backsides and hatching eggs, what are the prospects of a person who has taken a few classes and has no industry experience? I personally know of a BW consultant, who is an ex colleague, has more than 10 years of solid SAP experience and has been out there looking for a project for more than three months now.

This is what I would call the employer's market. They can cherry pick the best, for the simple reason..availability.

And this isn't only about SAP. Be it any technical field, it's not a right time to switch. This is a time to stick around and do what you have been doing for a long time and then plan and wait for the right time to move in to SAP if you want to.

Whats the point of taking the classes now when you know the chances of finding a job in a particular field are zilch or minimal. If you don't get to work with the technology after taking those classes for a few months, you might and you will forget everything that you learnt. What a waste of time, money and effort would that be.

From some initial enquiries I have found that cost of 5 month course in India varies between 1 and 2 Lacs.
Any idea what is the ballpark figure for doing the same in Canada in Toronto area?

In b'lore, I have heard that 3 months part time is 30 thousand.
In Toronto it is around $ 2000- $3000 ($ 26K in SAP Canada for 25 days) for 7-8 weekends ,6-7 hours a day, sat for theory and Sunday for practicals).

Hope this helps.

Just reproducing what was said few weeks back in another thread, good to know that people have realised soon about IT and SAP market in Canada.

Someone said that good people are always in demand. This means people who were and are being laid off are not good people.

First, demand is the only driving force for job and not good people.
Second it is difficult to define good people from job point of view in NA as someone may be good for a job in India nad may not be good for job in NA otherwise most of the people immigrated in skilled category would not be doing odd jobs in Canada.

Please do not snatch the right of an individual to information by saying do not listen to others as it is fundamental right of individual. So for the benefit of everyone it is better that whatever the case may be, one should always keep eyes and ears open.

The fortunes of the American economy have grown so alarming and the pace of the decline so swift that economists are now straining to describe where events are headed, dusting off a word that has not been indulged since the 1940s: depression.

Keep well,

Until next time,

Cheers!

IBM, SUN and SAP may be among the hardest hit technology companies in 2009 as spending on computers, software and services drops for the first time in six years.

SAP recently said that it will cut 3,000 jobs as 2009 will “remain challenging” and offer “limited visibility.”

The German software giant said it expects the cuts to save 300 million to 350 million Euros of cost savings starting in 2010. With those cuts, the company expects to reduce its staff to 48,500 positions. SAP said it will not provide specific 2009 guidance due to the uncertainty in the economic and business environment.

In normal situation, it is difficult to find SAP job without any implementation experiance and certification. Under the current market, It will be even harder for any individual to do a SAP course and expect to be employed immediately, when experiance SAP consultants are on bench in IT companies as new projects are either dropped or postponed.

Do keep above in mind.

Good luck,

i DOUBT IF one can learn SAP in mere 16 to 25 days.
Any idea about longer more intensive courses, something like, lets say 6 months?

Hi Gopidi,

One can do any SAP module course from Rs 5,000 to 25,000/- in Hyderabad. There are good institutes in Hyderabad and due to recession, the coaching institutes reduced prices.

Typically, these institutes offer 1 to 2 hrs daily class for 2 to 3 moths and students can practice in labs on 24 hours basis.

So do not waste 1 to 2 lacs in Bangalore for the same.
