Hello Everyone!!

I have been reading everyone's posts, looking for inspiration;) Let me put my case before you, and then please give your comments freely. I am a 54 yr old Pakistani surgeon, qualified in UK, where I worked for 10 years;moved to Pakistan, spent 5 years there was reasonably happy(near to family and friends), but got fed up with injustices and corruption all round plus house got broken into and wife was in terror. Moved to the Middle East, where I have been for the past 10 years. Made some prudent real estate investments plus savings, and now have about 800000 canadian dollars. Have read about the clean and beautiful environment of Vancouver, and was told tht I qualify for skilled immigration, and so have applied. I have one daughter, and my wife is my only dependent. Am I mad to take this decision? What are prospects?
Your input would be greatly appreciated! Best regards.

Gaulam,

You are taking a good decision since you are planning a retirement in Canada. You can make good investments and make sure that you get a sturdy income(Canada offers tons of opportunities for investment).

By the way, forget about working as a surgen...

Timon

Thanks for your reply. Its certainly appreciated and welcomed greatly. I am definitely thinking of things other than being a surgeon. Is Vancouver a good destination? And what about real estate investment there??

Best regards.

Gaulam,

A suggestion. I wouldn't go about advertising the amount of my assets on a public forum, that's a bit too much information I think. Maybe living for so long in North America makes me this paranoid about it, but you have to careful here about your privacy. Identity theft is one of the biggest frauds here and it pays to be cautious.

I've noticed some other people do it as well. It should probably suffice for you to say that you're VERY comfortable financially. :)

In any case, that's just me.

In regards to your original question, I think you'll enjoy life in Canada if you come with that much money. I agree with Timon, it'll be hell to start practising as a surgeon here, I doub't if you're willing to do all the study at this age. But with that kind of money, you'll never be short of options. Let me know if you need a financial advisor :D

Money is a reason, though I think I can make enuf in India also with my qualification, but that wud be enuf for India only.
Whenever u travel anyplace in India, u see a whole lots of Firangs. And it's not that they are rich ppl travelling around.
For an Indian to travel around in India itself wud require a reasonable amount of money. And one can't think of going to say canada for vacations.
So a strong currency does make a difference.

Very honest opinion! Really appreciate that!
Thats what happens when we see lot of Firangs on Sar-zameene-hind. We think that they have lot of money because they can afford coming overseas , spend their money here, stay for months.........vow!................must be lots and lots of money in Phoren country................but reality is totally different.........most of the immigrants in Canada, esp Desis, work day-night just to sustain theirselves, forget about savings........they work 3-4 years, save enough money for their return ticket from India, spend lavishly in India, travel all over.........(and we think they are very rich.....b**l S**t...........they are very poor..........they never travel anywhere in Canada, probably do not even go outside their province and whenever go to India, get a chance to spend their one month's 'Pagaar' .........cdn$2000, convert in INR 70,000 and spend in one month as if they are Kings or Princes here)................

Are we also going to be the same type??
Yeh Canada hai pyare..............

I think most of the potential immegrants fall prey to the rosy pictures shown and advertised by the agents who garantee the better future in Canada and they project Canada as "Heaven on earth". These agent give the money-back garantee if one leaves Canada within one year of landing.
I think it will be very helpful for the seniors to give us the exact picture of Canada before we also become one of the victims for the whole system of immegration to Canada.
I have finished my Medical in March 2004, & m late to find this site.

Again we are diverging from the main purpose of the thread. So before we go down familiar roads again. Please try to provide only reasons for YOUR decision to migrate.
Daniel please read thru the other threads. There are people here who consider themselves victims OR are unhappy and others are very happy(like me). You need to hear both sides, and make the decision for yourself.

To all New and potential immigrants...YOUR(and not what you think are others) reasons to migrate please.
