Spyder,
You come on a bit strong...but I do agree with the gist of what you are saying. I also find it intresting that you equate progressive with left leaning :). One can lean too left to the left so as to loose objectiveness. Some of the writings of Noam Chomsky are, to me, indicative of this fact. I guess we should start a whole new thread on the same :).

Why is the term 'Indian' demeaning? I am not sure I get that.

However, what people have been trying to say is that you and I do not have to agree or endorse what others are saying. However, they should not be asked to 'Shut up'. Dont you agree?
BTW: none of the above posters seem to have claimed discrimination OR hedonism as reason for moving back. Maybe you are just confusing the above posters with others who have complained about the same? I know I have met a few of them too.

still...why is the term 'Indian' demeaning? I honestly would like to know. I've never heard of that before.
p.s: I hope we have not dissuaded you from further posts. People with your perspective are SORELY lacking(vocally) on this forum. I can count them on the fingers of my hands. We need you here.

People should be able to post both +/- experiences. You can disagree with their opinion but not if they can post about it.....

Hi everybody,

This is my first mail but I am highly impressed by all the friends at CD.com.I have been working for last 14 yrs with Hindustan Petroleum Corporatin in India in techno commercila positions.I am a mechanical engineer from Aligarh Muslim University.

I am planning to move to Calgary within few days as I have realised that there are few oil jobs in Ontario.I am just 5 days old here.I am looking for certain leads with regards to following:

Placement agencies to get entry level drilling jobs in Alberta.
Driving licence acqisition in Alberta and whether the same is valid for entire country of Canada.
Mode of getting cheap car in Alberta.
Any other helpful lead.

Thanks for everything this site gives and best of luck to all

Guys,

I have been reading some of the postings on this website. I think most of
you guys are really negative (sorry if I offend anyone with my remarks!)
about life in Canada. You can't expect canada to provide you with a higher standard of living and still be just like your home in India. If you guys think it's hard in canada, try coming to UK. You have no idea what racism really is. I am of the opinion, you want to live in another country learn to be receptive of their culture and traditions. You can't impose indianness onto them. It's their country, you are an immigrant, if you are not happy here because it's not like india, than go back to india. There is no point complaining about something just for the sake of complaining. Canada is no different from other countries. Everyone has their own issues. To make something of yourself in india, you would have to work yoru socks off, so why do you expect things to be easier somewhere else. There is no alternative to hard work. You work hard, you keep focused and have a half full attitude in your life , than every place is great. Just because you had one instance of bad experience you don't start slagging the place. I have been in Canada, Ireland, England, Middle east and India. I think Canada is better than all of them. India is my home but canada is definately a close second.
