Hello CD's,
After finishing my office work today, I went grocery shopping at a huge facility run by south asians near Islington and 401. I often go there since they sell produce for very low price and most people who use the store are visible minorities incl. me.
Around 9:00 pm when I finished shopping and went to the cashier for check out, I found quarelling sound between two people in the cashier next to mine. There was a Philipino woman first in Que. It seems that the next guy in line (looked like a Italian since he bought olive oil, Italian bread etc.. He must be a labourer since his shirt was full of construction dust but he was from west or East Europe), pushed the grocery of the philipino to keep his. It was also alleged that he was in very close proximity to the philipino. The fight stared very slowly by words like "Behave like a human", "Give respect" to Italain- Just b'cos you have **** doesn't mean that you can talk ****". The philipino lady was very respectful and she only used words like "Stupid", "Idiot" etc.... The cashier said nothing and the supervisor of the store (who was helping in the packing) also said nothing. I expressed by displeasure to the hearing of both but they did not stop. When the situation turned vulgur, Suddenly the husband of the philipino woman came (he had 3 children with him. 5 years, 3 years and 1 year) and started shouting at the Italian saying " Give respect", "You are talking too much" etc... The Philipino man's face turned red hot and he was yelling. All the 3 of his children started to cry. At this point I could take it no more and said "Someone call the police". The Philipino woman also told me "Yes. Call the police". Since I have never called the Toronto police / Had no experience with the Toronto police, I did not do anything. The local cleaner of the mall came and asked what was wrong but did nothing. At this time the philipino woman finished paying the cashier and started walking away yelling and shouting. After they went out of the mall, the people around actually started making fun of the lady and agreeing to what the Italian said.
I was falberghasted. In my opinion, I donot think that the philipino woman was wrong. The Italain was arrogant and he started profanity in the first place. That I saw it with my own eyes/ heard with my own ears. All that the philipino woman said was "Donot come close to me " and "Donot push my groceries". If this was India, The man would have received very nicely from the crowd near him simply b'cos of the fact that he failed to give respect to a woman.
The whole incident left a very bad taste in my mind.
I am telling this incident so that CD's can advise me of what I should have done (as a bystandar) in this situation. The joke was that everyone in the mall were seeing the happenings but none of them said anything , not even the associates of the grocery store or the supervisor of the grocery store or the cleaner of the mall.
Thanks for all honest answers and suggestions
Peace

Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude.
So there was a rude Italian...there was a touchy filipino...there were some words exchanged...they both went about with their lives...so did the other bystanders...have I got this right so far?
...and so what's your problem again?

If you have a gun, you can rob a bank.
If you have a bank, you can rob everyone.

You can call 9-1-1 to get the police as well.
Regardless of whether u've dealt with them before or not

Microsoft - Which end of the stick do you want today?
If you shouted ," call police" ---then you could have called 911 for police help. Since there was no physical violence, there was no need for any police help and there was no need to shout. These things are becoming very common in Toronto. Nothing to be scared of asking for police help. Our cops are any day better than Noida police.
