I have been talking about this to many members of the site - to start Online Indian Grocery Store from CanadianDesi.

We will have Groceries section on the site when one can go and shop. We will also have phone number where one can order the stuff. The payment can be made online or while delivering.

What we need is three resources:

1. Online ordering system
2. Purchasers and stockist of wholesale items
3. Delivery guys for GTA area and dispatchers for out side GTA via post

CanadianDesi will be naturally online ordering system. I am looking for persons having storage capacity and ability to contact different wholesellers, bargain on price and terms etc.

The delivery guys will be key for the entire operations as they will be the main person who are in direct contact with customer.

Online store will work only when we can provide it cheaper compare to stores.

Now look at the normal figures.

Average amount a family is spending on Indian Grocery - $150 per month
if we work on 20 percent profit margin (The indian Grocery stores usually have 40% margin) the profit we is $30 per customer

if we get such 1000 customers per month the amount is $30,000! Even if we have only 100 customers it would be $3,000

Looking amazing!

Now in order to deliver one don't need to work full time, we can always setup a time (say friday evening, weekends etc) and deliver accordingly.

The profit can be shared by all who involved in the process.

The expenses we need to incure are on-line processing, delivery charges (gas etc), packaging and storage space.

What do you think guys?

I do not have storage space but can contact wholesellers for price and terms & conditions. Also can coordinate delivery for the supply on requested time by customer.

Suggestion on Poll: I will buy part of my grocery list ( heavy, bulky items)

jago,

Acutally the software doesn't allow to add options in the poll, but yet that is a good option to add.

So we have one more person in the team!

Welcome!

GG,

Both of us had discussed this service/business almost a year back, and I had told you that I am ready to invest in stocks/storage and we will work out something for delivery (I don't mind starting it myself first), but you were to look into wholesalers who would give me good rates. I have been waiting for you for all these months to give me a feedback.

You would recall that we had discussed we can find working partners in different areas of the GTA who would stock small quantities at their home (which will be paid for by me) and they will be given money for delivery which will be either dependent on order value or time spent. Each of such working partner will get distribution/delivery orders from one central location and delive within his area. This is something like what I am told exists in India as a C&F business.

My original offer of investing into inventory and storage is still there and I can start with deliveries too. But I will need the initial help of contacting the suppliers ( I am not good at that). As agreed at that time, a percentage of each order will go into development of Canadian Desi and for the fund to help desis in various manners.

So what we are actually looking for is good wholesellers and we will have a mark up of 20% which will be used to pay off:

1. a fixed percentage to CD for development and social cause.
2. charges for delivery
3. costs of central storage if needed
4. Inventory costs
5. Profit for the investor

And thus it will profit the consumer (lower prices with home delivery), the delivery guy as a side business, CD to generate funds for social causes and maintenance of site and the investor - so it is a win win situation for all.

Chandresh,

Yes, and that is the start of this process. You are already in and I have list of wholesellers and list of items. They are not giving any price as we are not commited. Once we say yes and have list of items to buy from them I can get prices.

I would like to see opinion of members, who would like to join the process as a buyer or for delivery.

Now as Jago is in team we can get more contacts and good rates.

Any more replies guys?

Blue Lobster?
