What we need is three resources:

3. Delivery guys for GTA area and dispatchers for out side GTA via post

I understand initially you may be interested in only the Toronto region, but if/when you wish to cover the Prairie Provinces, I would be interested. There is a shortage of quality Indian stores in MB.

Canadian Dream,

You can tell us better about possibility of sending stuff via post in reomote areas. Will people buy and ready to pay for the postage etc.?

I remember shopping for Indian Groceries online when I was in Japan.

http://www.ambikajapan.com/

They also used postal service to send out the groceries. I am sure this venture will be a success, specially if people who are not lucky like us in GTA start using this as a way to order monthly/weekly Desi supplies.

Garvo,

Since you know the wholesellers, can you talk to someone and get idea prices for atleast a few items? You can tell them that you want to just work out a business plan to show to the bankers and need the purchase prices of some of the goods.

Once we know this, users of this forum may be able to comment if it will be worth their efforts to buy on line.

It might be a good idea if the goods that you find prices for have known brands so we can get a better feel - say like Taj Atta, Asoka tinned vegetables, Lijjat pappad, Hanif's Patra etc.

I will do this, however the prices will be approximate. The real prices might be different, so please don't come to my home for buying stuff with those prices ;)

Imho, people will definitely buy provided we offer a good quality-price-service model. If we are sending items via post, a lot depends upon timely service and delivery, most people are willing to wait for a few days but not much more than that; they will be willing to pay for increased availability and wider choice.

For deliveries, if need be I can personally cover all of Wpg since its a (relatively) small city. In Wpg, there is a small but not insignificant desi population and there is a lack of quality Indian groceries (or atleast we havent seen any so far). We personally buy Indian groceries from the Real Canadian Superstore's ethnic foods aisle; their prices are decent but they dont carry much variety of goods.

It can be tied with one of the courier / postal service to deliver daily ordered qty to a single place for that particular city. e.g we supply WPG total order to Canadian Dreams place. As we are supplying to one destination from GTA to wpg evryday, cost for postage can be negotiated. We save couple of $$$ in transportation. From WPG Canadian Dreams take over the supply as one of the channel partner and make his money. We collect total wpg sale amount from Canadian Dreams...... Does this make sense!!!
