Yesterday Evening I got a job offer and they told me i have to reply back to them by Friday.
But i am also waiting for a job offer from another company as well. I talked with their HR they are also conducting Ref. Check at the moment.

Hope to get the offer by Friday evening.

So How can i delay the response to the first company.

please suggest some great idea.

Thanks in advance!.

If I were in your position, I would accept the job offer and offer to join after 2 weeks notice to my employer or atleast ask for 1 week to do some personal work.
In the meantime, if the other offer come's through, I would take that position. I would call the first company and tell them the truth that you got another offer and inflate the offer salary by 20% and tell the first company. If they are willing to match the offer, then I would take that and repeat the process for the second company.
In this process, you make the company that you are not joining insecure by indicating to them that there are many market players out there which are giving more salary and that not a lot of job seekers are out there in the market. This in turn would encourage them to give another immigrant (with very less cdn. experience or none at all) a chance at the job.
Hope this helps..

Peace

TC

Do you have a copy of your contract or a copy of their HR book. I once delayed my response by asking questions on company insurance policies and getting clarified on certain issues but that was genuine. Be polite but firm that you would be happy to know before you join. Hope Q&A will delay it!

The most innovative excuse I found someone giving was ... that he had slipped and hurt his right hand and therefore unable to sign :D
