I think I didn't understand your point quite well.

Discouragement from people not to move to Canada.

I'll eat my hat if you could find more encouraging reply than you've seen in this thread. You need to understand that the IT industry in Canada doesn't build software such as U.S/India but a consumer of software. What can you expect more $120K / Year or $100/hr average pay.

I don't understand your rationale behind this rant.

JRF,

I may have got it wrong but to me it seems that Sanjaybt has atually praised the encouraging replies he s received on this thread v/s the inputs he had earlier from maybe his peer.

Yes , its true that the Canadan IT market is looking up ~ it may have a reason that the US economy is looking up hence he Canadian economy is following suit . Not heard of much co op work in IT these days .

Fido

Thanks for pointing out.

JRF

Yeah I should have expressed clearly. I will rephrase the sentence

Lot of people discouraged me not to move to Canada. That the main reason I came to this site to find actual facts. And thanks for your suggestion

As far as i know, IT jobs are picking up these days.
For your skills set a conservative payscale is around 70 to 80 K.
I was speaking to an IT friend who works in ING Bank in Toronto, with similar skill set and 5-6 years Canadian experience and he gets around 85K but in a 3 month contract job. (He has studied at Anna univ. chennai- if that means anything to you). I do remember IT people struggling to get into jobs in 1992 but that situation has changed srastically now.
Also people / agencies in Canada are not in a hurry to hire, so do not be surprised if they donot call you back for a month or weeks. Try calling them once a week to follow up.
With your skill set, other areas where jobs are available in Canada are Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa (mostly govt.) and Halifax.
All the best.
I am not an IT person but do have extensive contacts / knowledge about the IT field in Canada and USA.
