I was with StateFarm in the US and when I moved to Canada, they transferred my policy over without a hitch.
They also applied all the discounts I was receiving in the US.

I was with geico and moved to state farm in Canada without any problem.

If I remember correctly, all they asked was proof of being insured in USA and there was a standrd letter or form that does this. I talked to geico and they faxed me the letter.

For Ontario:

If the person above 16 is sitting at rear, it is his or her responsibility. For non compliance $116 fine.

For persons 16 or less, responsibility is of the driver.

Wow... Must be true, but where did u get that?

< 16 understandable, but for adults too? Doesnt make sense...

To my understanding, In Quebec, There is no such seat-belt "law" for adults seating in the rear.

From http://www.usatourist.com/english/tips/driving.html
IN US, Nearly all states have laws requiring the driver and front passengers to wear seat belts. Many states require children to wear seat belts even in the back seats. Nearly every state requires special child restraint seats for all young children.

Where can we find clarifications for this?

As Smiley posted....what's wrong abt seat belts in the rear seats......mfrs provide seat belts in the rear seats for safety reasons...not only for some occassions when only a child seats in the rear seat. It is for one's own safety....I wouldn't drive my car if all the passengers didn't wear their seat belts.....no matter what age......

I know two close family friends.....who were involved in two separate but similar car accidents....BOTH in the rear seats.....one with belt and other w/out.....and the difference in the injury suffered by the one who didn't wear seat belt was HUGE...life threatening.....that person is still suffering from the injury even after more than a year...the other person recovered within 2 weeks......same situation....same impact....and the first Q that was asked by the Dr. in both cases was, "were you wearing a seat belt" ? :)

Sometime it can be really annoying...but they are life savers....I don't understand why we make such a big hue and cry abt it.....just wear the damn seat belt....no matter what you age is.......it can save your life

Reg myths abt auto insurance...I am not sure but my exp is same as that of Patrickm.....everything else remaining same...the auto ins is more if the colour was RED or any bright colour...but it mattrs even more on the model...two door/four door.....for the same reason cited by patrickm...and I was told by one of my friends who works for auto ins co...that these reasons are based on statistics...

regards

the reason that the insurance companies give for a 2dr being more expensive than a 4dr is that in the case of an accident, it is difficult to pull out anyone who is seated on the back seat of a 2dr car in comparison to a 4dr car.
