I wonder, why most of the immigrant end up doing labor job for long time. I understand one has to do this to survive when no option available. Why can’t immigrant try professional job while doing labour job at the same time. Sorry this question may look silly but the answer will be helpful to me.

Priorities change.
U have kids, have to keep paying bills, u may be sponsoring ur parents/brothers/sisters and a 3 years steady job is required for that.
U may be sponsoring ur wife and need some good savings rightaway, so u dont wanna change ur job.
Also, u see a lot of other people who do take the initiative to learn something different and fail (most dont understand what they are realling to trying achieve, and that education just alone doesnt get u a job. ur personality,language skills, attitude, ur soft skills are also required)
Some people get stuck in car leases/mortgages and its hard to do a career swap.
Some try and fail and give up. Others look at those who fail and never try.
A whole lot of reasons out there...

Some fortunate ones find a way, concentrate on their goals and come out of labour jobs. It is tough but not impossible. Most important thing is one need to have skill which will be recognised in Canadian job market. Once you are here you need to concentrate on how to get qualified for such jobs. With out a skill it is very difficult to come out of labour jobs. One need to think Canada as many province not only as Toronto.
