like you now know people have different reasons to feel offended. I cannot tell you not to feel offended by the word sexy. By the same right you cannot tell anybody else why they should not be offended.
Also as you can see not every desi is offended by the word and hence I categorise the value(of bearing offense due to the word) as a personal one and not a 'desi' value. Infact almost every Indian newspaper is dripping with this word. Does not make it right...but it is not undesi by any definition. Similarly any desi who does not agree with Biomeds, GG's or your views is not undesi either.
Note: I'm not saying that you are wrong in considering 'sexy' offensive. After all it is a personal choice.

the person in question(sexy_vixen) did not make a single post. If such persons can be barred, someone who HAS offended others *should* be barred too. Mr.dpJain suggested...you should be barred(i do not agree). Can you see the slippery slope we are on? You would not even have a chance to explain yourself if that policy was followed.
Won't all this work with a simple request and voluntary actions/self-restraint rather than barring people? Freedom is a value in our culture that we cherish too. Freedom of speech(with its ills) is an integral part of this 'freedom'.

Pinky, Some very good points there and I must admit I agree on a lot of counts. And I certainly agree with the jist of the post that the Sexy word isn't offensive. And really, there's no way to pull it under the rug. The "trying to recreate India here" analogy does not work too, because India is a very different country now and is still changing very rapidly in these regards, whether good or bad. For the record, I did not lock the post, didn't see a reason to. Garvo probably noticed something there I didn't. Even so, an explanation would be nice as you point out. You are probably right. I think I jumped to conclussions due to the 'locked without explanation' aspect of it all.
p.s: For the sake of our friends who find some language offensive...Can a small request/popup to keep id's and language conservative(albeit without a definition) during login time help(this may work only for those who are not beyond reason

I am appalled by this barrage of so much criticism about my posting. thanx banjara for jumpin' to conclusion and showing a typical "indian mindset".
some three months ago it was biomed who "attacked ma personality" and labelling me a "cantankerous " for no apparent reason. he was desperate to know something coming from me to help a lotta distressed desis, and i was just taking it easy. he (and some of his buddys) exposed himself like a weirdo.
i got no bad blood with anybody. however, if challenged then.......
coming back to ur start of ur posting "as a person who has held reasonably senior level management positions" , u don't impress me at all. a double engineer (canadian educated) with 7 digits assets like me can be extremely arrogant if need be.
let me prove u wrong as a senior level management guy, u failed to investigate this matter completely, instead u chose to be biased (unfair) and acted more like a real "nomad" or what ya call banjara. i am sure u know the depth of my statement.
and finally, u mention culture "Culture is not something which you should change just like a dress based on the occassion", i sympathize with your knowledge of culture. i challenge u on this issue that u have no idea what ur culture is. should u decide to get in to debate over this, i suggest u study the history of india dating back to BCs first.
