Wow... interesting 
Considering that "personal attack" was directed against me I am so thankful for all the "Al Franken's" in da house to speak up.
Now coming from the horse's mouth... Manasvi maybe you got the interpretation wrong.. What he meant was that Certain Indians (in da forum) have a "Rush Limbaugh" mentality (ultra conservative)...while others have a "Jon Stewart" mentality (ultra liberal).
As BL and others have pointed out, what is offensive ? If you think "SEX"y is offensive then maybe we do not have the right to call ourselves Indians..cos afterall our forefathers gave us an "OBSCENE" treatise on "SEX" called the "KAMASUTRA"...
Our forefathers gave us those "NUDE" sculptures at Ajanta, Ellora, Khajuraho (along with "IDOLS" of "GODS & GODDESSES"

What I definately found obscene was the way the "RUSH LIMBAUGH's" reacted. That diatribe was directed towards me, yet I choose to ignore it.

Unfortunately, i could never have such discussions with my parents. Thats why I am very much determined that I pass on these "OBSCENE" discussions to my future generations. I think you have urself praised that portal (or did you read all articles posted there).

1. Yeah very much debatable as 2 what constitutes r levels of speaking .1 man's poison is another man's food .And thats y the debate ensued which finally got locked as it seemed endless . Plus its more of introspective . There were favorable as well as unfavorable views both valid .
2. There s nothing obscene abt \"sex\" or \"sexy\" as long as there s a right place , time and intents . An Indian Forum which wasn't meant for dating or leisure but informative lacks all the above. Nothing wrong , but just stands out of flavor of Canadian Desi (personal opinion). Not being conservative , not being liberal just status quo .
3. In a public forum certain politeness / civil behaviour is expected which seemed lacking in a certain member . And the personal attacks were getting towards different people bottlenecking the conducive and smooth environment . Hence the reaction which again was personal but an exception .
4. I ve participated on a couple of forums using a lot of swears and curses and I could not appreciate them . Did not wish CD 2 turn that way hence the concern .

I believe I now understand why the discussion was locked. I'm not entirely sure it works as the rants from a couple of individuals (the ones that others have referred to here) seem to continue no matter what topic is being discussed. I'm exagerating perhaps, but seriously, I've seen way off topic slams/defences all over this site by a particular member or two. First they aggravated me... now I just skip their entries when I'm reading a string. (natural censorship in motion)
It may not work for all, but I suggest it as a possible strategy to deal with unwelcome, offensive attacks and unacceptable behaviour. Just simply do not acknowledge. Move on. The lack of response may be all it takes to at least keep the string going on a more reasonable level.
There are some members who seem to always be teasing and taunting and baiting. Even the internet has bullies. And nothing bothers a bully more than the lack of response. Their self-perceived power is diminished. At first they'll probably lash out harder, but sooner or later, they'll leave.

i was just thinking the other day that people have become so hep and comfortable with themselves in india but those desis who have come abroad can suddenly be so conservative...
on the other hand ...lets be broad minded in attitude but not feel compelled to flaunt words and 'open mindedness' on this board becuase everybody does not feel entertained by it and it can sound crude. Just adding my 2 cents worth in this post. I think it is very healthy the way we are discussing it.

it always surprises me when a bunch people get together a small thing suddenly becomems a locomotive without brakes... there are far far more important issues facing people today, specially new immigrants, than what is "traditionally correct" in our culture...
opinions are meant to be expressed, and not everyone will like all opinions... to cloak your disagreement of an opinion with the reasoning that "we are indian" and hence purer and above others is absolutely horsecrap (i say "horse" because if i said "bull" i might be accused of being against indian bulls... apparently its ok to be against indian horses)...
