Well guys - hot discussion here!!
I had survey on Meidical system while ago and this is the response:
Very Good
45.3%
Not Good
17.3%
Good
16.7%
Worst
13.3%
Same
7.3%
So ther are about 45 percent people saying it is very good plus 16 percent good - so about 60 percent people say it good.
But remember there are about 40 percent people don't consider it good
My personal opinion is that we should not have government sponsered health system like this. This is really waste of tax payers money. 50 percent spending on Health is real shame on any government.
Just because it is goverment we don't have enough beds into hospital. They are not admitting pregagnant ladies upto the last minutes and egar to discharge them as early as possible.
Even if you have fracture and having multiple cracks - they put you in a operation queue and you will be operated after 7 days!
This is not good at all. If I am given an option that you can pay 50 percent of your tax, but can not take benefit of heath - I will gladly accept that offer
Now compare to US - your insurance premium is 600 per month? Ok per year it is 7200. And how much tax I am paying here? Much more than that. And those 7200 does not cover drugs. So I will definately save money and more important - I will get much better services.

YES ITS REALLY GOOD!!!!!
Like I said in my original post, there is definately room for improvement. However let's not manipulate statistics (for which, by the way, no reliable sources have been pointed out) to justify irrational viewpoints.
Someone said.
" So if you say that if you are laid off in USA, and god forbid, you are hospitalized, you will come out alive but bankrupt - that is right - if you have not taken private health plan. And dont you forget that the facilities that Helath Canada offers is funded out of money you pay - in this case thru your taxes (or in places like BC - thru a deduction directly for medical or something of that sort!). That is why, in ON it is called OHIP, I standing for Insurance - which you are buying in any case. So if you have paid for Health Insurance, it is good anywhere! "
Agreed. I pay for my healthcare in Canada while I'm employed. But in the United States, the healthcare STOPS the minute you STOP paying. In Canada, if I'm laid off indefinately, I still get the same healthcare access indefinately. You have to be umeployed to realize what a big relief it is to know that if I'm walking out of my office with a pink slip in hand, I won't be left to die if I'm hit by a car in the parking lot.
Let's take the example of new immigrants coming into this country. Their healthcare starts after 3 months. You may not have paid a SINGLE dollar in tax to the Canadian govt., still you're getting free healthcare. I have many friends who've been here for at least SIX months and still can't find jobs. They come with their families and cannot afford the HUGE payments required by health insurance companies.
And coming to the issue of paying, a friend of mine in the U.S. got laid off recently and also had a kid about the same time. He had no choice, had to buy healthcare for his family. The cost?? A whopping $800 U.S. bucks per month.
Another example. Say someone on a very ordinary income threshold sponsored their aged parents to come to Canada. This person certainly cannot afford to pay a few hundred bucks every month to cover them. CANADA COVERS THEIR HEALTHCARE AS WELL. Your parents may never have paid a dime in taxes in Canada and probably never will, you don't get shown the door when you take them to the hospital.
Another example, something that happend to a friend of mine here. His kid was pretty much hospitalized for about 2 years after birth due to various complications. During this time, this guy changed three jobs. He was unemployed for at least 6 months, while his kid literally lived in sick kids hospital in Toronto. Instead of telling him to go get health insurance before showing his face, the staff at Sick Kids gave him free diapers and other things. He worships the doctors who cared for his kid like Gods. GO AND TELL HIM THE CANADIAN HEALTH SYSTEM IS THE UGLIEST IN THE WORLD.
This is the whole purpose of free healthcare. YOU DON'T GET SHOWN THE FINGER WHEN YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY ANYMORE.
Other quotes
"AND BY THE WAY, FREE CONSULTATION IS AVAILABLE IN ALL GOVERNMENT CLINICS AND HOSPITALS IN INDIA TOO"
PUHHHHLEEEEZE!!! I don't even have to counter this point, anybody who's lived in India already knows. Have you ever tried calling an ambulance in India from a Government clinic????
Canadian healthcare is not a purely capitalist system as in the U.S., it a pseudo-socialist system as well. You don't only get what you can pay for, sometimes you need things that you cannot pay for. Try getting that in the US. Various world organizations re-affirming Canada as one of the best countries to live in the world are not stupid. One of the main selling points there is Canadian healthcare, if you didn't know.
Room for improvment? Absolutely!! Ugly healthcare system? Unresearched rubbish!!

From the springboard of irrationality, here we go diving into the depths of utter nonsense.
I live in Canada and am aware of unreasonable delays in certain aspects of the medical system, and that's whereI think lies room for improvement. I'm certainly not adverse to the idea of introducing a nominal charge per clinical visit if it eliminates unncessary traffic.
My original protest was against someone bluntly calling the Canadian system the worst in the world, and I think I've made my point. I'll sign off from this thread in peace.
Vivek, I hope you got your answers though, probably more than you bargained for.
