Hi all
I felt very unfortunate to find that the thread started by biomed about indecent words got locked while I wanted to share some thoughts on this. So I am prompted to restart this thread.
Somehow I read this thread somewhat late and prompted to share my thoughts also on the given subject. I have some strong feelings about this topic. Hence wish to share with you some experiences with my search for information on Canada, its culture, immigrations matters and most importantly an opportunity to network with like-minded people. I applied for my PR at CHC in Dec. 2003 and after some weeks started looking at Internet resources on the subject. First I came across many yahoo e-groups and then to some websites like CD (first was CD only). I was immediately hooked to this site because I found it as a treasure of everything I was looking for. I was fascinated by its character, genuinity of its senior members to help the potential and new immigrants, seriousness to its mission, its objectives and above all honesty to its personality (of CD.com as a whole), apart from other good things about it.
In course of time I learned about some more similar site but one more was suggested to me by one CD members perhaps (I do not remember) to be of equal stature as CD.com and meant for Desi audience. I do not wish to name this site to avoid any legal complications. I visited this site and found it very difficult to even open an account with the community section. It used to give absurd errors and all. But one day I just entered the community area like "Charcha" here in spite of all the error messages I received. Curiously I scanned through the community areas all over. There I saw where the young crowd is heading towards in Canada. I scanned though all kinds of messages most of them very "adult" in nature. I felt disgusted and concerned about the psychology of the Canadian Desi young to what extent they are not able to focus on decency in life. However I am sure the community there does not give the complete picture of Canada. I never felt like visiting this site again. However I just felt- "what if Canadian Desi's Charcha is taken over by such kind of messages, such kind of audiences, such kind of psychologies". I honestly felt if what I know about the western culture and its influence on Desies, sooner or later Canadian Desi.com is going to go that way. No one perhaps can stop that. But I felt very happy that nothing of that sort has happened on cd.com for quite sometime now or say "till date". I felt that this is one site, which has got a strong character of its own, and nothing is going to change it so soon.
With above background, the present debate on indecent word in the member's ids is a very serious issue, which has to be rightly tackled given the competition, which we face, in the present world. We need to focus on our main agenda, and I feel the main character of the site should not be compromised with. This change to "indecency" is bound to happen silently thru say "double meaning words, in this case "SEXY". Someone identifying himself as sexy something is invariable seen by majority as someone looking for "fun" associated with the word. In the context of the larger issue of keeping this site's original character intact we need to handle it delicately and should try to keep such word off this site. Anyway such word serves no purpose on this site. There are "infinitely big avenues" on the net to indulge in such activities and to find "fun" and "enjoyment". Let us get down to the basics of our main objective on this site.
I strongly recommend someone to filter out such words from this site. By the way what positive aspects can you derive from ids like "xxx".
May this site remains a family oriented decent site for years to come.

While everyone shares your and Biomed's concern, Just by starting threads like this you give unnecessary importance to undesirable IDs.
I didnt even notice it till these threads about them started.
I also dont undertstand this over emphasis on Family oriented....
I can now imagine all of CD members sitting down at the computer with their entire family and posting just like they would watch a movie.
there is no need to go over board with all this....in the end you may actually drive away people.

I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.
I guess the issue has been long resolved . However I wud appreciate BMs concern 4 starting the thread and pointing IT out @ the 1st place .
I think it will be foolhardy 2 add anything further as the Moderator and Seniors have already opined on the matter and it is more or less introspective . There are other issues which need more thought now that v have xpressed rselves on this 1 .
Regards,
Manasvi
