Hi Group Members,

Wanted to take your suggestion : We(My husband and I) have 10 years of experience in IT in India. We have received provincial nomination from Nova Scotia and our PR application is in processing status, we are hoping to get Canadian PR soon.

We do not have job offer right now, we will move there and find jobs.

We are confused whether to make move to Halifax as we have heard job opportunities in IT are less there. We have a 2 month baby as well and I intend to take sabbatical for 1 year at least.

My husband is in core technology and works on Big Data, Hadoop and Java.
I primarily work on SAS and Data Analytics.

Will it be a good move for us and will it be easy for us to get opportunities there?

Your suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Natasha

Natasha:
If you have the only option of moving to Halifax alone, it is good., as you will find job oppertunities there easily ( IT Jobs are always there and easy to find). The downside is the harsh climate.

If you have the option of moving anywhere in Canada, after landing, then I would suggest Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and Calgary because that is where maximum IT jobs are. Salary is better, more desi's and less harsh climate.

Moving to Halifax with IT experience is 1000 times better than moving to Halifax with a Non IT Background.

Your choice.

Murali

Thanks Murali for your response.

As we have been nominated through provincial nomination by Nova Scotia state we have to stay in Halifax for initial 2 years. No other option

Although, Halifax's IT market is not that big as Toronto and Vancouver, you should still be able to secure a good job. Don't worry! Also, make sure to brush up your presentation and communication skills that will be tested more than your technical ones.

With your & your husband skills , you will get very well paying jobs (as you must be currently as well )

There are few IT cos. in Halifax but they employ a big number of IT pros. You should not have any problems in finding relevant jobs. Try CGI , NTT Data to start with.

After 2 years , if you wish to , you can always move to Toronto.

Yes we are well placed here and that is what confuses us to move if we will get good opportunities there too.
Also how do you find Canada as a country to migrate, I just wish to ensure that we don't repent on our decision post moving? Feeling very anxious and confused right now.

If both you are well placed in India and work in IT, don't even think of coming to Canada. Getting a job in IT won't be an issue though in Canada, There are lot of other issues though.
