Little bit of Racism is everywhere and we have to dealt with smoothly ... don't forget we are immigrants , these country has welcome has and given a chance for better future... We should learn to respect their way of style and culture
sometime we tend to blend too much into our desi culture which make them upset as well..
and tell me we don't have racism in India ??? North vs South, Gujju/marathi etc...
Take it easy guys , i have some non-desi friends i get along with them very good vs i had some desi friends i can't stand them , so that mean all desi's are no good ????
on light note: Gori don't like to hang out with Desi , main reason is we are so f....king scared to freely walk in public with gori, we r with her but always watch for other people, to see if no one is watching us walking with gori, always hide in corner so we don't expose to public .. gori's mainly r free mentality , they often like going to public places, bar/resto/pool/beach/shopping and fact is we cant walk with them free - so that uncomfortability drives them away
even for young kids in school... some of our desi boys have gori GF , but most boys are scared of mom/dad so they try to hang in desi group....
since i married i change but when i was in montreal , i had hang out with many nationality girls but ended up marry Desi girl
- Why ? same reason , culture and family value
so all in all most of the time it's our fault

Vivek,
The fundamentals are different, the preferences in lifestyle, food, family upbringing and most importantly leisure and entertainment. The last two are pretty important for a common platform to socialize, hence the distance.
We visited and were visited by people from different background, mostly through work and reciprocation, We're able to feel the difference hence didn't continue.
I can't be forced to enjoy what is not comfortable, but certain things work out easily like discussing movies, TV shows and common sports to some extent. Either side doesn't want to stretch beyond a certain point, the curiosity to know the other side recedes after sometime so that the bonding opportunities.
Language makes a huge difference, while I am a south indian, being fluent in hindi (I see some of my familiar CD buddies giggling at my hindi accent), helped me to bond with families with hindi speaking background fairly well.
I used to feel how TK expressed in some aspects but it wanes off as time passed, as the curiosity washes off over time..
Good job handling impudent fellow traveller diplomatically..

Whatever any one may say, these goras dont like we being here and the fact that we people come and do well here makes them more furious.

It is funny to note that when people are talking about non desi, the only thing that comes to their minds is "Gora". Why not others like Chinese, who are perhaps more in numbers than south asians, or Koreans (huge population too), and middle eastern who are not "goras", and above all - Africans who are in a huge number in whole of north america.
And yes, as mcg pointed out, the europenas are immigrants who arrived before us - but they are hated by the natives since the europeans pushed them in a corner. I think, though I have not tried, it might be easier to make friends with Natives, than with Europeans.

Racism however, is another ballgame altogether. I have never encountered it in the last 10 years since I have been here - subtle or not. And, I am all surrounded by them morning through night; and even in my neighborhood. May be the way I carry myself, I don't know.

That's it, you summed it pretty well. I have lived here for 23 years and have not encountered anything that would make me any bit uncomfortable. Granted, there are many bigots out there, for a major part, racism is a boogy man that exists is one's inner self. It's a convenient excuse to avoid self-reflection.
What I find interesting is the fact that a number of pretty disparaging, ignorant, bigoted, and blanket comments made on CD by certain CD members about other ethnicities. Then these same folks turn around and claim everyone else is racist.
Agree with most part except dozen's if not hundreds such incidents happen every year in North America
