This is an extension to Febreet's post and follow up.

Febreet,
I seem to have seen you writing about this couple of times. Do you mind discussing this ?
I am just trying to understand the perspective from your end.
I belong to the same clan that often sells the "Better future for kids" to my extended family :) :) and I do see there is a miss.

Do you need a new thread as we would be taking the slice from TK's pie...

These days no one cares, and the age old prestige factor is vanishing by each day as people back home don't have time in their hands. Besides, who cares for others.

Per 2012 data, Canada's population is 34,880,000. If one third are children, that would amount to 11,626,666 children.

Per 2012 data, the world population is 7,046,000,000. If one third are children, that would amount to 2,348,666,666.

If we all came to or live in Canada for the sake of our children, imagine the plight of the 2,337,046,666 children :(

Anyway, the above is a tongue-in-cheek remark. You owe nobody an explanation why you live where you live. Be happy and try to be successful in your own way.

I might think my child has the privileges of living and working in Canada, the USA and India without any encumbrances. But, what is stopping my child from immigrating to, say, hmmm, Catolonia and go through the same crap we went through?

(BTW, Catalonia is an autonomous community of Spain)

Life is relative. Live to your fullest.

Perhaps, I could have been clear. By "you", I didn't mean you. It was meant to be more of what my perspective is. I left my parents when I was 21, unmarried and no kids. So, clearly, kids' future was/is not in my books as the reason to have moved or live here, and is still not.

After this many years, this part of the planet Earth is my home and that's just about it. Only that, I am fortunate/blessed enough to call this part of the planet my home and be able to live here.

So, when people claim they immigrated to Canada for their kids, they might mean it or could be a lame excuse for something else.

Febpreet righly called it as a faux.

My perspective:
I came here for myself and for my own future. My kid will gain in the bargain, ( he will have Canadian accent to start with :-) ) but that is secondary.

Its a lame excuse to put it on kids future, rather they are wrong that the kids will have better future here than in India. A bright kid will make his future anywhere.
