I have been on this site for a while now and have noticed that quite a few persons continue to address their posts to "fellows" and "guys" though there are tons of women who are active participants on this site, and continue to respond to the posts irrespective of how they have been addressed. I do know that "guys" is sometimes used for both genders. Now this may be my age speaking but seriously, it would be very nice if members on this site could address all with some respect for the age and gender of the persons who are taking the time to read and respond to the posts. My request to all is to please use words like desis/members or anything else that does not make this appear as an all boys club or a club for 20 year olds. Unless of course you wish to hear from only men or only women in response to your post in which case specifying that in the post or in the category you post under (Canadian sakhi for example) would be useful.
Thank you,

A valid point! And I (like many others) use "guys" and "fellow" many times unknowingly!
I used it in my recent post and have edited!

I'm a 27 year old female and I use "hey guys" and phrases like that all the time. I appreciate your desire to keep this place inclusive and will try to watch my wording, but "guys" is used to refer to mixed groups all the time in common English language usage. In other languages like French "elles" refers to a group of females, "ils" refers to a group of males and "ils" refers to a mixed group. I guess language developed in a sexist way, but I don't think that in this example it reveals sexism in the users. There is a trend away from using the female form of words for females such as actress for a female actor. Many females prefer the masculine form now because it equates them with being just as good as a man in the same position instead of in a special female position.
