At my office I see that all the desis(who have come on short/long term visas) talk in regional language, it is very frustrating when you try to mingle with them and don't know what they are talking about, even the higher ups talk in regional language among themselves. When will these people learn?...please post your experiences
I feel the same in my office where whe have many a desi's speaking in hindi and a few goras speak in their regional language English.
I hope the Gora's learn hindi or punjabi ASAP so that they can speak the office-ial language.
In DesiLand become a Desi.

Studying CIA world fact book:
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/in.html
Hindi 41%, Bengali 8.1%, Telugu 7.2%, Marathi 7%, Tamil 5.9%, Urdu 5%, Gujarati 4.5%, Kannada 3.7%, Malayalam 3.2%, Oriya 3.2%, Punjabi 2.8%, Assamese 1.3%, Maithili 1.2%, other 5.9%
note: English enjoys the status of subsidiary official language but is the most important language for national, political, and commercial communication; Hindi is the most widely spoken language and primary tongue of 41% of the people; there are 14 other official languages: Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Tamil, Urdu, Gujarati, Malayalam, Kannada, Oriya, Punjabi, Assamese, Kashmiri, Sindhi, and Sanskrit; Hindustani is a popular variant of Hindi/Urdu spoken widely throughout northern India but is not an official language (2001 census)
In a population of 1210 million as per 2011 census, you'll find that every language uptil Punjabi has more population than the Canadian population of about 33 million.
Hence they will give the arguement of majority versus minority.
This is akin to asking who is a bigger star Tom Cruise or Big B. If you study numerically Big B will be biggest known star in the planet.

The exact conversation in a different context is happening in Canada over talk radio's.
Chinese is the second most spoken language after English in Canada currently.
Hence shouldn't our leaders should be debating in Chinese than French in the current election debates?.
Why special treatment to the French over other languages?.

Try mingling with people who share similar interests and personalities regardless of where they are from or what color they are. You'll find more satisfaction in that.
