Hi all,
We are landing in TO on May 10th (Never thought this day would come
). I was planning to take only about $3000 - $4000 with me to cover our 10 day stay and also take a bank statement to show the remaining funds. However, I've read a couple of posts where people were actually asked to show the entire amount before landing. I can understand this policy if someone is moving permanently but for someone just visiting to get the PR status finalized and plans to move later, it would be useless to carry so much money (in whatever form). Most of my finances are tied up in my business and it'll be difficult for me to take out $16,000 in cash and take it with me to Canada. Will it be allright if I stuck to my orginal plan and take the bank statements, or not?
Any Ideas or Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thx
DT

Microsoft - Which end of the stick do you want today?
DT,
In my case, I showed stock and bank statements and that was acceptable. I landed in 2001.
Not sure about the recent rules, but how about getting a demand draft from the bank, just to be on the safe side? I'm sure that would be accepted.
I've edited the title of your post, btw.

Are you there?

If you can show current months Bank statement that would be fine.
You can tell them, you are going to transfer money as soon as you open an account in Canada.

Hello DesiTiger Ji,
You can show your recent bank statement as proof of funds.
They will convert the USD to CND and show it as settlement funds.
We just landed 3 weeks back. They were very cool.. didn't ask anything as such.
In case, you have any queries you can write to me at
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Aparna.

Welcome to Canada Desi Tiger,
Since you are coming from USA, your bank statements/pass book should work as a proof of funds here as the US funds are freely convertible and accessible. However, in order to make sure that you do not face any problem, you can ask for a letter from the Bank(s) confirming your balance with them to support your statment and passbook balances. If the bank(s) mentiones about your satisfactory dealing with them, then this letter would serve 'dual purpose' of settlement funds and a sort of 'credit reference' as you might need that later here for applying for any sort of credit. Please make copy(ies) of these letters as the Immigration officer may keep the same with them.

Thanks to Pramod and others.
I am also planning to come at the end of this month from US.
Infact, I got the same question and this helps me a lot to get ready.
This site become my favorite BOOKMARK since I got immigration. All those CD administrators and senior desis are really doing a great job by helping fellow Indians who wants to come to Canada, while spending their valuable time.
I like to appreciate all of you guys.
Thanks again.
