Well said, Jake. I do exactly the same thing and really haven't had any isues with racism in Canada. Why should I be shouldering somebody else's issue? I honestly feel a bigot DESERVES the life he/she lives, I'm too busy to bother.

Yes, it is rather sad to read a story like these and it touches all of us. But that would be my first response. The immediate second one should be "What can I do differently so as to avoid the same pitfalls?" Surely there must be something we can do. To me, rational thinking and adaptability is the only way out of this.

Suppose you are a Gujrati businessman having a business in Bombay.......and you are looking for an Accountant.........You gave ad. in News paper and got few CV's.

1. A Gujrati CA
2. A Bombay guy M.Com
3. A Madrasi CA
4. A CA from Somalia

Tell me if you are the Director of the company who would you offer job..... I wil brief my views

1. Gujrati...ok he speaks my language and is a CA lets call him for int.
2. Bombayite...He is an M.com..and knows the local market...ok lets call him for interview
3. oh....this guy is from Madras...doesn't know hindi..no experience in Bombay....will consider later...
4. Somalia !@#$%$% that means Africa... He claims to be CA..how would I beleive him???Is his degree real? Is he a trustworthy guy? Does he know the job? He looks different...speaks different language.... Most probably reply in NOOOOOOOOO...


This is the natural instinct of any human being....Hence I dont blame Canadians treating Indians / Asians that way.... when you apply for job in Canada...a white Canadian boss will be happy to take a white guy with half qualification and experience than a qualified Asaian....

This is a natural process :

1. In the Gulf..Arabs have priority for Jobs
2. In West....Whites have priority for Jobs

Nobody invited us to Canada..we ourselves went to this so called..developed Rich country..1st world.........

Keep trying........you win some...loose some........Everything is not justified in this world....

There are certain things you can’t change, your past and your skin colour (sorry Michael Jackson). There are certainly a lot you can change. CHANGE is the key word.
1. Attitude (first thing to change ASAP, soon after you land)! Be positive. If you start negative, you will remain that. As skepticism begets negativity and has geometric multiplicity.
2. If you want others not to take consider your skin colour in the interactions, don’t recon skin colour of other person while you interact.
3. If you think that you are qualified enough for a good job, don’t wait for that to materialize, get into job market, whichever rung, and work your way up, by upgrading to Canadian degree/diploma/certificate. There is a saying in Hindi,
“Aam se lade hue pedh (tree) jhuke hue rahate hain, nahi to toot jayenge” (fruit laden trees droop or else they will break. Learn to be honest but humble.

What i have realised after working in canada for two years is that the "Canadians" are worried and scared of the Asian foreigners superiority.

there is an underlying fear and surprise that these guys are coming from a starving country (Bhukha Nanga) and yet there expertise is same if not more then us.

This makes them nervous and insecure.
