Rajkumar Hirani's well-made "3 Idiots" is on record-breaking spree at the box office. But there is a small slip in this thoroughly entertaining cinematic journey -- TV actress Mona Singh's character is first called Poonam and then Mona a few scenes later.
Mona, who plays Kareena Kapoor's elder sister in the movie, is first referred to as Poonam by her screen dad Boman Irani. However, Poonam becomes Mona in the dramatic sequence that follows where Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi and R. Madhavan deliver a baby with Kareena's help through a web camera.

Awesome !!! Meaningful , enjoyable and very well performed cinema ... Mind blowing ... out of the ordinary ..... Leaves you with the same breath of fresh air as Lagaan , Dil Chahta Hai & Taare Zameen Par ....
Chatur was the 4th idiot in terms of performance and Bomin Irani the 5th ... Awesome performances by each of them .... Nice to see Jayant Kripalani in one of the scenes ...
Did any one notice --- how Aamir Khan s character moved the eyes so quickly to create a different image of the actor .... Excellent idea to get into a role and bring variety .
Just to let you know ... we got the DVD from India Town Center @ Dundas Hurontario and though not original was very good in quality ... No disappointments !!!

Fido.
I just finished watching "3 idiots", and I would like describe my experience as "awesome". Unlike some viewers who do not digest some of the unreal scenes, I have decided to deliberately ignore some of the inconsistencies, in the movie. I will not pay much importance to some unreal things in the movie (like how Aamir Khan or Kareena Kapoor did not age in 10 years, etc).
Essentially, what I considered central to the movie is the way most of us in India are brought up, with regard to the education, and the career we choose. That we need to reproduce everything from our text books, verbatim, is a tragedy of sorts. I never scored the high 90's because I sought the independence to express what was required, in my own words.
Looking back, marks wise, I may have been behind, but by rebelling against the system, I grew from within, improved my power over words, and in general feel empowered about anything I do in life.
The movie is a sad commentary on how things work in India - one has to be a software engineer, a doctor, or an engineer-MBA. Anything less, and you are on the lower rungs of the social ladder. Just a few months back, I sought to advertise for a bride for my nephew online (because he wasn't on the dating scene, because he wasn't a software engineer, an engineer-MBA or a ivy league graduate). Every bride to be had a requirement "Boy should be a software engineer employed in USA" or something similar to "Boy should be employed abroad"............ so much for the straitjacketing of what an essentially a bridegroom should be. My nephew wanted to be a non-conformist, who insisted that the bride to be not harbor any dreams of settling abroad, the reasons for which, I have never fully understood.
To cut the story short, he did get married to someone who is an engineer-MBA (not the last thing he had in mind), and who wants to "happily live ever after in India".
The movie 3 idiots, does have powerful themes, and dialogues. I am sure the general public is watching the movie for the "entertainment value" rather than the lessons that we could learn. I am not sure India is ready for the change that the movie seeks, in terms of how we view education, career and our attitudes towards what we consider our own ambitions.
Someday, (hopefully in my lifetime), Indians will have the maturity to be open to change, and there will be a sea change in our attitudes. Until such times, movies like "3 idiots" will serve as entertainers and eye openers.
