We are Indian family who have landed in Toronto about 13 days back. We are based in Mississauga (on Hurontario Street) and are actively searching for a suitable job opportunity.

We have been actively applying to all related job positions which appear online and on various job-related newspapers. However, we are yet to receive a call from any employer. So far there is no success and have not recieved even a single reply.

Please can you refer us to any suitable employer. We understand that most of the jobs are hidden and thus we are attempting your assistance in fetching us our first job.

Given below is a brief about our respective profession.

SELF: Sales and marketing professional with extensive global experience in Middle East and Indian market. Education: Engineer (BE-Electronics & Telecommunications) and MBA (Marketing) both from University of Mumbai, India. Looking out for suitable jobs in the slaes and marketing function in Toronto (open to any industry sector). In the pessimistic scenario, I am also open to ANY type of job.

I had met an Employment Advisor in one of the newcomer employment resource centres and she had advised me to join the ACCES Employment's program in Sales and Marketing Connections.
Has anyone been through such program? What is the success rate? Is it helpful in getting a job? (Note: The duration of this program is 4-6 weeks and is offered free to new comers).


WIFE: Looking for an entry-level job. Work-experience of 2 years in India. Education: Masters in Arts (Sociology).She has been house wife as we had to take care of our daughter (daughter is currently 5 years old). She is open to any type of jobs such as Customer service representative, teacher, etc.

We both are very fluent in English.

Please can you guide us and refer us to any suitable employer you would be aware of who can give us our jobs. We would be thankful for any support that you can extend.

Also please provide your feedback on the ACCES Employment Sales & Marketing Connections program.

You are expecting too much in 13 days. Unless you are desparate, It will take you min. 3-6 months in landing into a decent job (not necessarily your profession).
Since you must have come with a lot of Gulf money, I would advise you to take your time to understand the Cdn. market, the racism involved, the negetive attitude to the visible minority, their qulaification and their experience. So it would take a long time to burst through that barrier.
You can get a job in 2 or 3 days and that would be the following :
1. Heavy labour job where you will lift 20 lbs. of weight continuously for 7 hours in a shift of 8 hours.
2. Call centre job paying min. wage to $12 an hour. visit elsewhere in the forum for details

for a decent job, I would advise the following :

1. Roam around town to all the immigrant settlement centres and talk to people , counsellors etc. and see the prospects for your job.
2. Network with people and see what to do in your field.
3. Apply for the jobs through internet (workopolis, job bank etc...)
4. See if you can get some govt. aid for new comers
5. Hidden jobs are a myth mostly to induce newcomers to Canada. However, reference to a position by a person working in that company is possible. The catch 22 is finding a reference and the person should be willing to refer you. what I mean is that if there is a vacancy in an office , the owner will mostly look to fill a Canadian born / educated person in that position. That person may be well below you in all respects except accent. you need an insider to refer you to that position (before people start bashing me, I have done the same in my office numerous times)
6. Canadian employers generally employ in the following ratio :
a. Canadian born and educated person
b. Canadian educated person
c. immigrant with cdn. experience
d. immigrant
so in recession time, getting a job is very tough.
6. if you do have excess time / money, you can join Access program. It is better than sitting at home and applying for jobs.
7. Loser of this forum will advise you to take candian education, which will increase your prospects for getting a job after recession.
8. If you need urgent money, try to get a job which is from 3:00 pm to 12:00 midnight and you have the whole morning to search for jobs, network, go to settlement centres, attend interviews.

Hello TK and other Desi's

I got a call from One consultant in downtown area. DRG Careers.

I went and met with them. I met with the President there and after 10 mins talk, he said he can help me in getting a correct job in my profession and for that they would charge me.

He did not elaborate how much he would charge.

He asked me how much salary i was getting in Gulf and so on...

Not able to believe this company will be able to get right job in my profession...

Any body knows this consultant here?

Amazing. TK nothing personal, but you DO need some positiveness in your approach to this forum. silly comments like "lot of gulf money" and "racism" and trying to discourage new comers.

I have not seen any racism at all in this country. Its just a personal opinion. In fact its always been my Canadian (WHITE) bosses who have elevated me higher ( i am not trying to boast ).

I know you are an architect from your post many years back and you mentioned how you had and still have trouble in getting a job. My wife is also one and she was able to get a very good architect job within 20 days of landing (again not boasting, but trying to explain that its all about your approach to a situation, and positive approach).

Summary: Some of your advice is good, but you need to lay of the negativeness
