Hi guys,
I tried to look up but couldn't find anything relevant.
I have a new job (that i love) and its been 3months now and i am doing fairly well.
I just had a performance review after my probation period and got a 10% raise along with my permanent appointment letter.

The issue is that my supervisor sometimes acts wierd and tried to boss around telling me to do things that i am already doing and at other times he is quite friendly. Today i was asked by another team to make a client site visit and they checked with my supervisor who agreed. But later during lunch hour i just overheard one member of other team discussing with his team mate that my supervisor told him that she actually doesn't need to go and that he could go instead and that he is just jealous.
My supervisor usually goes forhis visits in evenings so that he leaves for home straight but asked me to make appointment for morning.
Please help!!!!!!!

Hello G,
Your post actually does not make any sense except what is quoted above and I will try to answer it from my experience.
If your supervisor is a Canada born Canadian (Gora), then it is not very easy for Desi's to sort of gel in frequency with them (esp. people of the opposite sex) and it is sort of common for them to boss us around. You could try to learn his area of interest (for eg. pop music, ice hokey , Tim Hortons) etc... and try to be more of his frequency. That is the best that you can do under the current circumstances.
In our company we have a lady supervisor who bosses us around / spies our work to get a good image of herself from the company's boss. It could be that in your work area too. If that is the case, only complaining to your supervisor's manager would help.
Congrats on the job !!!! Hope your sort out your differences with your supervisor at the earliest.
Peace by TK

HelloG, he is your boss and within his rights to boss around telling others what to do though his subordinates may not like it. Complaining to his manager about these petty things is not a good idea.

Sometimes, it is a matter of trusting someone new in the company with a responsibility.

HelloG,

In my opinion, you should document details in following format everyday or whenever you feel that you were not treated according to your company's HR policies. You should also write your interpretation of that situation and then try to find any discrepancy whether you were treated according to your company's HR policies.

Do this for at least two months and if you find that there is a real concern; then you can set up a meeting with your immediate supervisor/manager to understand his expectations from you and you can also discuss your concerns.

If you still feel that your issues are not addressed then you will have to take professional opinion. You can meet external HR expert with your documented details and take next course of action.

I do agree with tamilkurvan that you have to make an attempt to match your "frequency" with your manager's/supervisor's frequency and try to show flexibility in your approach.

Also try to understand whether your manager/supervisor is under pressure due to workload or due to any other reasons. It seems that you have positive attitude, so you can continue keeping positive attitude.

Date:

Situation:-

Reason:-

Action:-

Brief summary of end result:-

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Ecom

Had to mention so to stop the thread from getting replies here people just come back saying..."did u lookup CD for similar threads...blah blah.." but alas!!
I agree that if he is boss then he has to boss around but why even for stuff that one is doing already and effectivey!..doesnt that make one frustrated!
Ecom..thanks for the most relevant and professional advice..i will follow this and keep it withme and would bring it to table after a few more months iff this behaviour continues.
I have suggested some changes in the areas where i was asked to analyse the process and told my supervsor but he never took it to higer level and just ignored it. One day his manager came up to me and asked me my progress in that area , so i told him what my suggestions were which he liked and immidiately implemented.May be that was something which my supervisor may not have liked....
I try my best to be friendly but at the same time maintain my distance ( i ant be bear bar buddy!). Anyways we'll see what way things turn in next few months. All i know is that i love my job and will work hard to deliever what i am expected to !!!

Thanks guys for your inputs!!! sometimes things may sound super silly to you but for someone like me who loves and want to keep the job, it may be giving sleepless nights!!!
Iceberg BTW I am no TK avtaar and if you can bother to write just that..why not create a thread or may be a site called 'TKmockers'
