The Crown's test had been carried out by a professional engineer who purchased a mannequin head, mounted it on a stick and then placed the assemblage in a wind tunnel.

I dont know whether to laugh (imaginative ;) ) at this or cry at it (professional engineer?:( )

Why couldn't they just let a sikh with a turban stand under the wind tunnel in a testing lab? I am sure if it was not that lethal for test purposes. And if it was, that's enough evidence that riding without helmets is dangerous, irrespective of collisions/accidents on the road, turban or no turban.

Finally, it is a good fight and hope some sense comes out of it.

I'm glad they used a mannequin and not a live person, else the person whould have been certainly blown away with the 300 km/h wind. :D

Although I appreciate religious sentiments, to me, this is bordering on the ridiculous. A law is a law is a law. What's next for exceptions? Someone can't wear a seatbelt in a car because of some religious issue?

If you're that religious, don't ride a bike!

A hue and cry over same issue was made in Delhi when helmets were made compulsary and they won so may be same tricks are being tried here also !!!
His OHIP should be made void in case he may encounter some untoward incident with his bike.
What i fail to understand is that why do we want to fight and risk our own lives over such things when there are thousand other issues related to our community that need to be taken care of than such petty issues like wearing helmets! Sikh community is overall very respectfull towards tradition, culture and are very faithfull and large hearted people but such issues only tend to tarnish their image .

Just for the record..I am a "sikh".

I think as you do that a law is a law is a law. I think the helmet issue is just a means for the group to push their own political agenda. First of all, the concern about Turban safety is not the unravelling of the turban ..but if you get hit..the turban is not going to protect someone's head from injury.

Secondly - It is absolutely NOT true that a sikh has to wear the big turban all the time. Some men tie patkas..which is flatter against the head AND a person could effectively wear a helmet if they wanted to.

I think its all political and a group of people just wanting to be given special treatment...I am not impressed by the provinces that have allowed this..again due to political reasons..votes...large sikh communities in these provinces..
