I have a situation which might have been faced by quite a lot of CDs and would like some assistance.
I receently got My Passport stamped , I chose to apply for a Canadian PR becuase of being able to call parents, how ever I am in a dilemma as I am not sure if after my landing in Canada my Dad will be given a visa. As my mom passed away last year he will have to stay alsone for a few months while I am in canada. Few months are not enough for me to be able to call him.
I am hence thinking of coming to Canada for SIN & come back to India & switch over to a Canadian company so that I could take care of the residencey req.
In case I am able to do the same & get a Canadian passport in the long run, Can I sponsor my Dad from outside canada being a Canadian Citizen residing abroad.
In short I am unable to make amove becuase I can not levae my Dad behind all alone...........do I have any alternative...pls do advise
You're making some fantastic plans here. First of all, its not so easy to "transfer to a canadian company to take care of the residency req.". Secondly, in the last post, you had mentioned some health issues with your Dad. Thirdly 4 years from now, even if you somehow get your citizenship, you don't know what the sponsorship rules for parents are.
I understand you're in a tough situation here and I'm not criticizing, just cautioning you against grabbing at straws.

Are you there?
To be eligible for Citizenship you should have stayed in Canada physically for 3 years.

Fido.
Elaborating on the other posts, please note the following.
You can sponsor a parent if you are outside Canada. However, only if you are a Canadian citizen.
You technically CANNOT sponsor from outside Canada if you are a Canadian PR.
As Fido mentioned, you need to be physically present in Canada for 3 years in a 4 year period to get citizenship. As has been stated on this board several times, you may be able to maintain PR by working/'transferring' to a Canadian company and not staying in Canada, however you technically cannot get citizenship this way.
So really, as Blue Lobster mentioned, you are thinking of something that is, in a best case scenario at least 3-4 years away.

Yes, this spells out that if you are a Canadian citizen you may sponsor a spouse, common-law partner, adopted child from outside Canada. It does not mention parent. But if you speak to an officer at CIC, they will most likely tell you that you can sponsor a parent as well(from outside Canada) like they told me, but obviously, this is something that should be explicitly clarified.
Please note, as this document states, while you can sponsor the above from outside Canada if you are a citizen, you MUST be present in Canada when the person you are sponsoring 'lands'. (This means you cannot be accompanying them). You have to be present here before.
CIC 'officers' are notorious for giving half-baked information on complex issues when you call them. I have got 3 different answers for the same query when I have called at different times.
When it comes to sponsoring a parent from abroad, I have done my due diligence and have consulted with a top immigration lawyer and his answer was that you have to be physically present in Canada at the time of application and after the parent lands. Remember that you are giving an undertaking of supporting them for 10 years.
Theoretically, you could leave the country but in case your sponsorship file is picked up for scrutiny and CIC calls up your employer or does some more digging and finds that you no longer work or reside in Canada, it could lead to the case being rejected.
