Bukhari should stop stepping into things that are not his area. Any one who mixes state and religion should be arrested as a traitor.
Secularism means seperation of church and state. Bukhari has no right to talk about Vandemataram.
If he doesn't like Vandemataram, he is free to leave India (and Indian citizenship) and go to a country that has Islam as a state religion. He should be happy India didn't adopt Hinduism as a state religion.
When no one else (christians, sikhs, buddhists, jains and also a majority of muslims ) have problem singing Vandemataram, why does Bukhari make these stupid comments?

If he was (or for that matter any Indian leader, we wouldn’t have Bukhari(s) making such comments openly.
Ramar, can you envisage Bukhari making such comments in present day US and UK? Oh yes, did we ever had some word sounding like POTA in legal lingo in India? If you had posted this (and such) in US, Feds would be tracking all your emails and phone calls by now.
A couple of questions in my mind:
1. Where are the so called secularists and the moderates like mahesh bhatt, javed akhtar, shabana azmi, teesta salvad or whoever she is? I guess they are all "conviniant secularists"
2. Why aren't the ordinary muslims speaking out against this? What better slap to bukhari then to have his own community members going outside his home and singing Vande Mataram? Should we intepret their queitness to this issue as their being in agreement with bukhari?
3. I believe samajwadi party members also asked the government to reconsider and "be sensitive to the minority". This party should be de-recognised!
4. Better to keep quiet. Or else the human rights organizations will file a case against us!

The first two stanzas of Vande Mataram do not mention any gods or goddesses and therefor should not be objectionable to Muslims. Calling one's country "mother" is quite acceptable and connotes both love and gratitude. The word "vande" should be taken simply as "I salute", rather than "I worship". The references to goddesses are in later stanzas, so Muslims should have no problems with the first two stanzas.

It is not clear how recitation of Vande Mataram savors of idolatry which is un-Islamic. If Mataram (mother) signifies idolatry let the word be replaced with Validam( father). The refrain of the hymn would then be Vande Validam.
