Hi.

I am a new canadian resident and come from India. One thing I realized after 3 years of staying in Canada is that how Important it is to know the canadian Law system and type of convictions you can have.

I had very bad experience and i dont want anyone to go through the ordeal.

If you want to save your life then first thing you should lean is how canadian leagel system works.

Few tips:

1. Always keep few of your good friends number Handy (Landline numbers). Remember them by heart. The reason I am saying that if you land yourself in jail (which I will cover later), you have only one way out, i.e. Either Plead Guily of your offence or call one of your friend (collect call only) to bail you out.

2. Get to know how many types of Criminal charges are there in Canada and how and what they mean to you, so that you never end up with bad situation.

3. Canadian Prisons system is very complex and bad and they try their best to keep you inside and Take you for a Ride.

4. Always keep some good lawyers number handy.

5. Most IMPORTANT is that you should Know all the type of charges that can be laid on you.

Remember folks, this is not India or Pakistan or any thrid world county where you can get out.

Here, you can never get out.

6. Watch for what you say in an argument as it can really put you in bad spot.

7. watch what you do while talking to women or interacting otherwise. (most serious type of offence)

8. MOST Important: This country is for women and there is no hearing for Men in this country. There are so many Indian Males and mens in Canadian Jails who got their life ruined because either they Did not Know what Canadian Law is or they behaved the Old fashioned way as they did in India or Pakistan.

RESPECT WOMEN and NEVER DO DRUNK DRIVING..

You will never have problem in life.

Otherwise.....Only God can Save you.

Thanks

Your post is very vauge. While i can see some useful realities of Canadian life/Law like Drunk driving offense, I really canot see any usefullness/Infrence in this post.
Can you explain?
I once heard racist comments in a petrol station. Police were not called in. Bystanders did not care.
Canada has one of the most lax law system in the deleveloped nation (as told in 680 news and media). They say that people can get out withvery small sentences for big offences.
Please prove the board otherwise.
TK
Sidenote: The Canadian law has equal status for both women and men.

I have just one question? Have you been to Canadian Jail?

If the answer is NO then you dont know what canadian Law is.

If a woman says that You sexually harassed her, they will not even listen to you and put you behind the bars.

All I wanted to educate people is that its easy to get in jail with stupid behaviours unless you know the law. Its tough to get out. Yes, people do come out of jail and I did too, but you pay heavy price for that. In a study Indian men spends about $10,000 once held in canadian legal issues.

If you had argument with Wife. Just walk away...Because you will eventually be thrown out of the house and will loose all the Money invested in house and potentially your children unless you want to spend 10-15 thousand dollars on lawyers to fix the situation.

I have been to Jail. There are rights for everyone, but its highly Gender biased.

The main objective of this post is so that People know what kind of offense they can be held against.

Thanks

Hi!
This is news to me. I thought if that you "really" harrased your wife , then you will be thrown in jail and not if your wife "claims" that you harrassed her but you really did not!
I will await other CD's experience. (I have not been to Canadiann Jail as yet)
TK
Sidenote : I know a desi couple, whose husband hit his wife with a slipper and she had to put 6 stiches to her head as a result of this action. She did not complain. I now shudder to think what would have happened if she went to complain. Both the Husband and wife's parents are multi millionares in India
2. In saudi arabia, in my company an Indian worker beat a philipino man with an aluminum rod. The Philipino complained. The Saudi police took tehm both, asked the indian to apoligise to the philipino and let them both go. Can Canadian law be more stricter than Saudi Law?
3. Also in the same company, a worker stole a satellite dish from the house he was supposed to install doors. The penalty was have his hand cut. But our company negotiated to let him go and he was let go. This is also in Saudi Arabia.
4. Child pronography is a serious crime in the America's. I agree to this. But most of the other crimes (incl. Murder) donot get the amount of punishment that the person concerned is supposed to get.
5. Also i heard from the media that men donot even respect court orders regarding child/ spousal support and that the govt. can do nothing about this. Stephen ji Harper is supposed to bring a legislation to make the terms of abandonment of Child support/Spousal Support more difficualt to evade.
6. Also if in an argument, a Male individual runs away from a female individual, canot the female individual sue the male for desertion and vice versa?

Not sure about this.

Regardless, I think some of the bias you mention in the legal system does exist. And it favors women. And with good reason.

And yeah, most desis don't but its always good to have a lawyer's contact and also understand the laws here. You never know when that will come handy.

I knew of a Professor back in school who got into an argument with his wife and apparantly pushed her off in defense to avoid getting hit (that was his version). Anyway, his wife called 911 and the cops took him away for overnight stay in a lockup in the police building.

No charges were laid because the cops realised the whole thing as a silly domestic argument that went out of control. They took him just to cool things off between the couple. Next morning, he was back home and she was back to normal.

So, to TK's point, cops just don't come around and throw men in jail. They have had decent training to pick out every inconsistency in your story and figure out reasonably well who's to blame.
