In reaction to Shankaracharya's post about Amitabh Bacchhan, these topics shall always remain open for debate between Bollywood fans and Tollywood fans.

Expressed below are just my views. I do not expect anybody to agree with them.

Amitabh v/s Rajnikant

To each one its own favourites - But when it comes to versatility, one should pick "Don" to see, how Amitabh metamorphosises himself to a village simpleton to a mafia - the body language, the demeanour, the accent - I do not think anybody could have done justice to that role

Kishore Kumar v/s Yesudas/SPB

At time, there were rumours about Kishore Kumar feeling threatened by invasion of Yesudas with success of Rajashree movies like Chitchor & Dulhan Wohi....

While Yesudas may be a superstar in South, I do not think his voice or his accent fitted the Hindi songs. He literally "shaked" his throat to sing some of the songs. It would be doubtful if Yesudas was ever capable of taking Kishore Kumars place

Same with SP Balasubraniam - he may be a superstar in South, but in Hindi movies - no way.

The only singer that I believe has capability to perform in both the languages is Hariharan. He is a very talented singer

RD Burman v/s AR Rehman

This topic has been recounted a zillion times on the Pancham group. But comparing both the stalwarts is like comparing apples to oranges. Both the composers existed at different time period and both were instrumental in changing the face of HFM. I like both of them (although Pancham remains my eternal favourite composer).

ARR has given some mindblowing compositios in Roja, Bombay, Taal, Lagaan , Swades and Rang De Basanti

In Lata Mangeshkar's biography, I had read some references about she being in competition with P. Sushila. SInce I haven't heard P.Sushila, I have no comment on that debate

Sidenote : Of course, Kamal from TN is one of the best ACTORS in India if not the best. But that is another story.

I agree! His 'Nayakan' preformance was astounding! Watching Vinod Khanna in Dayavan after made me feel pity for Vinod Khanna since I was comparing the two all the time.

Kamal's best performance is in :
1. 16 vayathinile 2. Moondram pirai 3. Nayakan 4. Devar Magan 5. A movie with sukanya which i canot remember
TK
Sidenote : Also there are actors in Tamil Cinema like Bhaygaraj, Parthiban who have not cared to head north. These 2 guys are just amazing. Some of the their jokes canot be translated in to Hindi. A person needs to know Tamil to enjoy these 2 actors. FYI many of Bhagyaraj's scripts have been translated in to Anil Kapoor movies incl. raja Babu
Illayaraja is a rock when compared to Sand RD burman. Illayaraja is a Mastero. He also did not care to head north. And Illayaraja is of lower caste and he used to initially play for death ceremonies.

Can you explain/elaborate this statement. And how many SDB/RDB songs have you listened before making such statement :cuss:

Is this statement necessary? Does this info glorify/desecrate his work?

Meghal,
I have heard of RDB/SDB songs while i was young and growing up. There are just like any other songs by Bappai Lahari, deva, Gangai Amaran etc... Maybe RDB/SDB can be compared to Vishwanathan (though i even doubt if they will come up to MSV's Standard).Illayaraja, ARR were geniuses. So you can not compare sand to rock.
Why i said that our mastero was of lower caste was that to tell the reality of his birth. He had a poor life and was not educated. His music was the gift of God to him and it did not come to him by learning.
Other Tamils in this board can shed some more light on this.
And this is just my view. You are free to agree with it or disagree with it.
