I have heard that Canada has the best living standard in the world ,but their are some questions that struck my mind. Their must be poor people in Canada as well, then what living standard do those poor people have?

What about jobless people since we know that unemployment ratio in Canada is higher than America.

Here is a website regarding Unemployment rate in Canada:

http://www.statcan.ca/english/Subjects/Labour/LFS/lfs-en.htm

Employment has increased by 1.7 % half of these jobs (275,000) are in BC and Alberta (according to the labour market report).

There are a lot of jobs and demand for skilled tradespeople. Salaries are very good and the prospects of steady work is high.

Regarding Poverty in Canada: Unfortunately this is a part of any society. There are government social services to assist low income people. There is low income housing for families which is subsidized so rents are lower. It depends on what factor you look at. Its a broad problem and one can find books and publications on poverty in Canada. Its hard to summarize in a few words.

Please tell me if what i say is wrong as heard about Ontario :
1. There is a waiting period of 7-10 years (GTA) to get into Low income housing.
2. Once you are on social security, then you can no longer sponser anyone from outside canada (eg.)parents and any visitor visa that you guarentee will be rejected.
3. Social Security is not enough for even monthly medicore living and you will be out of money once you pay the rent.
4. When you are in social seurity, there will be compulsion from your case worker for you to get employed in any labour job (unless you are handicapped or mentally retarded). So in 3 or 4 months, they will compel you to take any job, and in most cases all you can get will be lousy heavy lifting labour jobs.
5. By social services to Low income people, all that comes into my mind is food bank and free resume writing, free local fax and free internet. Anything else?
I am writing this so that people donot have high hopes about social security in GTA / Ontario.
Please corerct me or delete me if i am wrong.
Remember, if the social services were good, No one will work in Canada. if being on a job is tough (i mean heavy labour job) being on social services for low income can be even tougher.

The streets are paved with gold bricks. Milk and honey flows in taps. Everone partys all day and night as all work has been alloted to China and India.

I have heard about long waiting periods as well, depending on where you live in the country.

I am not sure about this. I understand there is a minimum income level required to sponsor someone and if that person has to go onto income assistance within the first 10 years they arrive then the sponsor can be made to pay back the monies the recipient received from the government (again this is just my understanding).

It depends on your family size I believe. Social security is not meant to be comfortable living. Its a last resort for someone with no other resources or means to sustain themselves and survive.

In many cases a person will make more income working at a minimum wage position than what they receive on income assistance benefits. There are programs for training individuals within the provincial governments that people on assistance may be referred to. I am not sure about Ontario.

Free resumes, job search assistance, local faxes are not for low income people..but they are for anyone in the country/province that are looking for employment. Foodbanks are often church run and have limitations on how often one can visit one. Other social services can include (but are not limited to) legal assistance, counselling, financial aid, training, health care etc.

TK: Why would anyone have "high hopes" about social security (if by which you mean welfare assistance?). If one is looking for economic or job security..that doesnt exist anylonger either..for anyone. There are some fields which have steady opportunities (ie/ truck driving..trades etc) however there are no guarantees.

Secondly, your comment that "if social services were good, No one will work in Canada..being on social services for low income can be tougher" was a bit confusing. Can you clarify?? Social services are meant to be bar e minimals to survive until an individual can get on their feet and independant.

Thanks.

---->>>>>>>>> Your answer is exactly my answer. And i had meant, if social services were unlimited , then no one will work in jobs in Canada. They would be on welfare, work on cash paying jobs and lead a merry merry life . And if you think that you can be on welfare and keep merry at home it is again not possible for 2 reasons.
1. it is not unlimited
2. it may just be enough to pay your single room rent. In ontario it is around $517 per month for a bachelor. Single moms get a lot more due to national child care suppliment for low income people and their welfare.<<<<<<-----

When it snows, does driving a 4 wheel drive on a gold brick streets work?;)

Talking about work going to China and India, today, I heard that TCS is starting to outsource jobs to China from India as wages are going up...:(
