I feel mattresses are a very important thing ........ if you have a distressed sleep , your following day is spoiled .... Shoes is yet another thing which I would never compromise on for similar reasons ....

It was an Orthopedic surgeon only who had recommended me a hard / firm surface when I woke up with a back ache ............
