My husband and myself are soon coming to Canada (Nova Scotia; Darthmouth area). I was just wondering if anyone could give us a rough idea of the kind of life in this city. And anyone from there could share their experinces with us , that would be great.

most Indians lilve in Dartmouth. its a place called Kolbey village . about 300 families. they have mandir and gurudwara in halifax. once you go there they all are very helpful.

you will get a lot of help fro the ppl in the mandir. but be careful too coz they will also want to make money off you.there is a organization for immigrants in halifax were you can get help too

First of all congrats for setting your foot in a new coutry and for taking the initiative to settle down in a small place with your business. Not following the herd is something not everyone has the courage to do.

As you can read my post in the success stories. I landed last year in Vancouver and since then I have been working as a Software Engineer in the same organization. Overall life is good, from job satisfaction pont of view I am more than happy but I am toying with the idea of moving to a small place. I stumbled accross your thread and am quite tempted by the Dartmouth/Colby Village area mentioned by you. In fact I was drawn towards Halifax a few months ago by reading a few posts on DiscoverVancouver.com forum. One can search on Halifax in that forum to compare it with Vancouver.
After reading your post, I am thinking of buying a residential lot in that area to build my house after a a year or two when I decide to move out there.
My only concerns are:
Is it good for raising kids?
Will I find Hindu/Sikhs out there so that my family does not compeltely feel out of the place?
I searched on the net and found this link that mentions about a temple in Dartmouth region.

How big is Dartmouth region? Is it advisable to buy a lot in Colby village in the light of the concerns I mentioned above.

janmeja...good to hear u have chosen halifax. can u tell us more about what life there is like. the costs, rents, is the city scenic, beautiful? and most importantly..ehat kind of jobs and income can one hope to get. are sales/retail etc jobs easy to get? do they pay enuf for a decent life. also how cold is the weather? is it freezing like one hears its in montreal/toronto? thanks.
