GG
I too initially planned a free site. The problem is that making a site is a considerable effort. Then one has to advertize it regulary or update it. Plus there is some cost, if not too much, to buy a domain name, webspace and bandwidth etc.
Besides lets remember that nothing is truly free ever. There is a cost involved it all. If I make a free site, I am sure I will add whatever I feel like and then will never bother to improve it....if it is paid, tleast there is that moral obligation to improve.

Can the Visa and mastercards issued India work here??
I feel that your website will turn out to be expensive.
Getting verisign's ssl certi, linking a Visa payment processor's gateway...etc..costs quite a bit in Canada. In US, it is little cheaper.

Newly landed desis have hardtime getting a visa card.

Having canadiandesi.com handy, I personally don't think that any desi in India or FOB would be interested in Paying.

It's your choice. Just gave a thought.

All the best with your project.

Hi Gujju
For payment I can set up Paypal or ccbill so that users pay using credit card and instantly get into the site as well. Spending $4-10 should not be too much for anyone. They will however need credit cards.
But I will see how ppl from India respond here.

Why do you want to make money from someone else's idea and property(website).

Invest your time and money. Start your website and make it a paysite. Who prevents you from doing that?

First of all it is not anyone else's idea. I had this idea in my mind for several months, its only now that I thought of putting it in practice if possible.
Make money you say....I hate to say but Indians seem to hate the idea of anyone making money...even if it is just their imagination. Even if 10 users join such a site in month, each paying $9.99, the total is still $40.00, something I make in about 1 hour, 15 mins. So much for "making money"
All I wanted to do was create a few pages of imformation that ,hopefully, will save many newcomers the frustration, anxiety, financial mistakes or even disasters when they decide to migrate here. I myself had gone thru this and if I had known how hard it is to get jobs here and how to go about it, it would have made my life much easier. The problems highly educated desis face here are simply a result of false expectations and little or no knowledge about the way things work here.
I was simply looking for input from other would be immigrants as to if this seems to be worthwhile.
But with ridiculous answers like these, I have better ideas.
To hell with helping others.

TF,

Have you gone through this site in totality? I mean have you seen articles sections? Have to look at all the posts on this site? Have you look at the huge list of employment agencies? Have you look at Classifieds?

All these are for desis who are in Canada or who wants to migrate to Canada. I still don't understand how your proposed site is going to be different than CanadianDesi? :(
