hello everyone,

this web site is really very very informative for all resident of canada and even more to would be immigrants like me. i was just wondering what exactly are the job opportunities for people involved in the financial equity markets. i would also request to give your view point where exactly would i stand in the canadian labour market in my profession.
i hold a bachelors degree in economics and an mba finance from calcutta university .( i recently read in this web site in a particular thread that calcutta university is ranked amongst the top 500 univ in the world by some chinese university ranking and is infact ranked better than many canadian universities. however i am pretty sure that this would not hold much value in the canadian labour market given the lowly value they give to international education.) i have also purchased the text book of the canadian securities course offered by the canadian securities institute and am going through it.however i have not enrolled in the course at present due to time and financial constraints. Nevertheless i hope to enrol in the course in future. i also do possess 3 years workex as head of dpository services at a large indian stock broking company and am thorough with the securities market operation and especially depository services operation.

I would also request you and especially to senior desis in canada if they could guide me more in what other steps should I take to get employment in my profession. (I do understand that it is really tough to get into ones own profession)

My other question is in which other city apart from toronto/gta/vancouver/montreal could I find oportunities in the financial equity market. I am seriously considering ottawa but am not exactly sure about opportunities in my field in ottawa.

finally my sincere thanks to all people in advance for giving their precious time in going through this thread

I would strongly suggest to you that Toronto is a better financial hub, and would definitely help you in building a brighter career.
I do have a couple of friends who have done the Canadian Securities course. If you need any guidance or assistance you can feel free to contact me at com

Until then
take care

The completion of CSC is the first small step to gain entry into the financial services industry. Not only it may help you to get a job in a brokerage house but also in other financial sectors.

Toronto perhaps is the best bet for you to begin your career.

I guess Toronto is to Canada, what Mumbai is ti India, NY is to US and so on. So for your kind of people, Toronto is the best bet. But again there is tremendous competition. One can also find similar jobs in other parts of Canada, like Vancouver / Calgary / Montreal / Halifax etc.

CSC is the first and correct step towards attaining your goal. One can also do this course from India or for that matter from any part of the world. I am not sure but if you are out of Canada and want to write exam, you'll have to got o nearest CHC. For more info go to http://www.csi.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK

If you need any other help, do let me know. I have already completed CSC as well as CPH and presently I am assocaited with CIBC( One of the largest banks in Canada), as Persoanl Banking Associate.

All the best to you.

Have you considered doing the CFA exams? I started these when i worked at an investment bank; this is the passport to entering the industry in asia if you wish to work as an analyst. with your background, you are probably ready to write the CFA now.

hello everybody,

it is really so touching to find out that so many people have gone through my post and further so many have responded to my question. my sincere thanks to all of you and especially to sanrs, chris, reachash and yours truly.

after going through your suggestions i do feel that toronto is probably the right place in my profession (although i sincerely wanted to settle in some other places considering that toronto is too saturated).

also i do believe that the cfa is no doubt a world class course but probably it will not be possible for me to get involved in this course right at this point of time. (as the course i believe is very very thorough and requires considerable amount of involement.) however i sincerely hope to cover at least the course material of the csc course for the time being.

once more my sincere thanks to all of you.
