hello everyone. first of all my thanks to canadiandesi for providing this wonderful opportunity to network amongst ourselves and get to know more about canada.
this is my first post in this website. my question is that my wife (25 yrs age and she is the co-applicant for canadian pr) holds a bachelors deegree in arts (3 yrs duration) from calcutta university together with a montessori diploma (1 yrs duration) from a private institute out over here in calcutta. presently she is working as a montessori teacher for the past 6 months. however earlier to this (just after completing her graduation and before enroling for montessori diploma course) she had worked for a telemarketing company for a period of 6 months. her job responsibility over there included client servicing, marketing, basic administration etc. over here i would also like to state that she do posses quite good english communication skills (atleast according to indian standards) although her academic marks have always been just average. under this circumstance i would request if anyone can give me some ideas to the following questions.

1) what exactly is the requirement for getting into montessori profession in canada?is montessori teaching a regulated or non regulated profession in ontario?
(there has been a discussion on teaching on an earlier post initiated by archana but that was mainly for higher classes)will my wife's qulification be sufficient to get into montessori teaching in canada? if not what further upgradation she has to do in india/canada? can you please tell me some such institutes in india/canada where she can do her upgradation?
2) given her past workex at a telemarketing company and her english communication skills, do you think it is advisable for her to shift back into her past profession? (so as to gain further experience which would probably help her into getting these kind of jobs in canada.) it is my view (correct me if i am wrong) that it is comparatively easier to get into these kind of jobs ( as there could be openings in offices which probably are quite more in number than montessori schools) than montessori school teachers jobs.

finally thanks to all of you for giving me your valuable times in going through this post.

regards
indianman

option for teaching in private schools, since
many don't require certification with the prof College. The Ministry of
Education web site has a list of private schools:
http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/general/elemsec/privsch/index.html

read the links

Maxim my request to you, don't promote false dreams. It is not easy to be a teacher in Canada for just landed immigrant. If you are going to have access to children a thorough education, character and experience check is required. There is no possiblity that ministry or the provincial corporation will allow a stranger to walk in a school and have access to hundred of chidren. You know that after staying in Canada, how government treats children. Why do you keep pressing this link. Let person come prepared here to acquire some certification or qualification instead of wasting time by traveling to all these schools with hope to get a job as teacher. Even the assistant to teacher is required to have requisite described my ministry.
When they talk of Pvt Schools it is not that they are free to do what ever the pvt. school decides. They have rules set for them too. Medical. Criminal, Experience and Qualification check is required to be registered with govt. for each and every staff coming near children.

Hi jago desi.
this dream is not false i got these links from some govt org.
i am also new immigrant
i got job offer from private school to teache math.
private schools are not like other govt school.
some private school provide coaching for math, science subjects etc for weak students etc
in toronto you will find many islamik, jews evan a bengali pvt school
they not asking certification.
why not you call some pvt school and ask procedure.
it is not so difficult as you visualising.
i know that, it is very difficult to get teaching job for new immigrants in govt or coomunity schools.ya this is true.
:(

Well then Maxim, do you mean Private schools or do you mean Religious schools/Private Tuition centres like Oxford Learning Centre, Kumon etc. Even a place like Oxford learning centre needs some kind of teaching experience or certification (I work for one as an accountant!)

Private schools are like Upper Canada College, University of Toronto School (yeah it is a school, not a university), Holy Trinity, Appleby, St. Andrews College etc. These are schools where the tuition fees are like 10K to 18K per annum and only the rich can afford to send their children there. Do you think these people will send their children where untrained teachers teach?

Do you know what is Montessori Education or simply Montessori way of Teaching. Now I know you are talking of Pvt. Tution classes.

For Indiaman Q - montessori exp and qualification counts if you can immpress principal with the knowldge. I have seen people getting into montessori school with some amount of volunteer work. Get everything right from course content, transcript and verifiable montessori work reference letter. She has a good chance to settle down in couple of months. Come prepared to offer volunteer service for couple of weeks. Every teacher has to under go immunization and Background check from Toronto doctors and police. Best of Luck

private schools/relegious schools also teaching math, science and other subjects.
in first shift they have regular classes and in 2nd shift they providing tution facility to weak students.
these schools, may not allow directly to new immigrant teachers to teach in regular classes,,but they allowing you in 2nd shift to work with weak students.if you r working good and lucky, they may offer you to teach in regular class.
so i think better to go,as tutor to these schools,,,,, not volunteering somewhere/free:( .
in pvt schools/tution centre/relegious schools you are earning money+experience

once you have experience, you can search better job,or can apply for BEd if you r eligible:)
i think if some one searching teaching job, ,he will not loose anything if he/she can try to contact such type of schools and ask about job.
list of such school,,,
http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/general/elemsec/privsch/index.html
:)

So, you get straight 8 hrs shift daily by way of teaching in after school programe? My idea to help an immigrant to get back to their profession as fast as possible with proper certification and a proper full time job. As far as I know for after school programe Peel board has staffed hired under a different banner and so may be with Toronto too.
I fail to understand your definition for Pvt. school. If you advice the person to later go for B Ed, in that case why waste time with pvt. religion school.

because if you are planning to go For BEd,it is not so easy to get admission in BEd.
universities need minimam 300 hours teaching experience in related subject , before you apply(according to YORK UNI Toronto),:)

Again u got it wrong, experience if required is from community school and not pvt. tution classes. I think person who has admission to B Ed can answer this better or can be checked at TEAS website

if any private school will give you a document ,that you taught any particular subject for more than 300 hours as tutor ,than i belive it will also be counted as experience.;)

good luck to you!!!
