1.TK ..why did you include $ 300 for food ? Get rid of that..you can get FREE food in Food Banks & Gurudwara :)

2.Why did you include Internet & TV ? ..FREE internet available in libraries and lot of FREE Wi Fi spots everywhere.
Also with a FREE TV antennae you can get 10-15 HD channels for free & its totally legal too :)

Thanks Adam for the encouragement and the support.

1. I did not want to tell her about food banks as I was not sure if she will take it the right way. I will tell her at a later date, if at all she decides to go to Canada. These are all personal decisions.

2. Let us assume everything on the higher side. I was assuming that while the kids are at school, you can do trading / filling survey's (Survey lion) etc.. on the internet. So internet is needed. As Anglo Indian's they are too much into TV watching. One cellphone + landline is essential as she is a Single parent.

There may be free internet on the library but many libraries are very specific on the site that you can go on to. I once used to attend many Job search offices. They also have free internet but they had a handicapped person watch us from the back. Once you open Toronto star or Gmail, he will come and ask you to close the website. It is a hassle. Internet at home is fine.

In the past I have earnt a little from filling survey's (Survey lion). I will also advise her to do some job from home (like order picking etc..) so that she gets a little more income.

Also another way to earn money is to go to the nearest university and see if she can be part of any study group where you get paid.

The day care expenses etc are going to be ridiculous , she will have nothing left over from her job after paying all the day care expenses..not much for food, rent etc :(..its a LOT LOT harder if she is alone.

Remember she is a SINGLE parent, so the advice given by TK is practical & feasible , even if its unpopular. Maybe after the kids grow up & don't need day care, supervision etc , she can do something else.

The details about the family are too hazy. Should one assume that the daughters also have Canadian citizenship? If yes, then why not wait till they are of college-going age and then move to Canada for their undergraduate studies? Why uproot themselves and live miserable lives in Canada as welfare bums? Again, very few details, especially on their current living status.

The family would be banging their heads against the wall if they were to rely on desis in Canada for help. Lol!

Elmer,
Valid questions but I am not willing to share any more personal information about my clients.

My intent in opening this thread was to find out if there was any possibility of getting a $ 800 , 1 bed apartment in any white area of Vancouver or thereabouts and I have got the response from FB that it is possible to find one even with $ 700.

I will google search and find one such apartment.

No need for anyone to break their heads or shower any insults. No one is going to break any law. I will be advising them to state everything truthfully. Already also google searched about welfare eligibility and responsibilities in BC and have complied the information.

Guys, OP JUST asked about a specific question about his/her acquaintance. Is it really that hard to stick to the point? Really? He asked about BC, so if you know about the place, then go ahead and suggest to the best of your knowledge.

Why do you care about whether or not the concerned party needs to (or should) start working as soon as they land? Do you know how much supporting funds they would bring into Canada? Do you know about their personal situation? Man, if there was ever a thread with numerous assumptions, then it's this.

Can we answer specifically, without 1. going around in circles, 2. being oversmart, and questioning OP's motives?

Why even waste your keystrokes, if can't advise properly.

Thanks Feb.
Just looked at a Map of vancouver and found that it is sparsely populated (when compared to the GTA).
Only with respect to lower cost of housing, good white dominated schools, less crime which place would you suggest ?
1. Abbotsford
2. Chilliwack
3. Mission
4. Maple ridge.

General question :
The map shows Coquitlam close to vancover but then still not expanded on the north. Is it because it is a hilly area (with a provincial park)?

Another observation is that the US border is so very close. Also I can see the the USA @ the border is very sparsely populated in contrast with the Candian side.

Just for the information of CD's.
I have checked the one way flight charges.

From Chennai - Vancouver, the cheapest flight tickets are Rs. 51,000

From Chennai - Toronto , the cheapest flight tickets are Rs 41,000

May be New Delhi to Toronto / Vancouver via. Russia and Turkey may be cheaper.

Except Mission, there's no efficient public transit that connects the other 3 cities to the lower mainland (Vancouver and neighboring cities). Mission has a West Coast Express train station. The line runs from Mission to Vancouver only during the rush hours and one way, i.e. Mission to Vancouver in the mornings and then back in the Evenings. All 3 cities (Mission, Abby, and MR) are just yet another cities in the far away burbs, and have all the shopping and big box stores. A more laid back, but a real nightmare if you're planning to do a daily commute to Metro Vancouver.

I won't recommend Abbotsford as it has sort of Gang problem with East Indian kids (Basically, kids born to the Desi parents). Although, much subsided now, but I would still stay away especially if one has daughters.

Mission is mostly caucasian, and I have been told that it has a largest concentration of 'single moms' in the province (unsubstantiated). Cost of living is low, and one can find a detached 2 level house for about $425000 - in case plan to buy. Shouldn't have problem finding a cheapest rental place/condo.

Maple Ridge is mostly farmland as well, just like Mission and Abbotsford, but better in terms of living standards, crime, demography. More closer to the mountains. Cleaner air and an overall environment. Surrounded by nature, provincial lake parks for camping and day trips. Beautiful. But, lack an efficient public transit. Car is must.

Coquitlam is closer to Vancouver, and they are building a new Skytrain station with the direct route to Vancouver Downtown. So, it will have much better connectivity. Largely, million dollar homes, but rental shouldn't be a problem. All in all, a good place to live in terms of schooling and connectivity.

Forget about Chilliwack - pretty far away from anything. Mostly farmland, with a lower cost of living. All shopping and big box stores are available though. About 2 hours drive from anywhere in the lower mainland. A car is must.

Land in BC is mostly sparce due to the natural limitations - mountains on the North and the ocean on the other end, in addition to being landlocked by US border. Coquitlam is no exception, thus.

I would say, if she wants to move farther then Mission should be the consideration due to the connectivity (West Coast Express). North of the Fraser, I would recommend Coquitlam as you asked.
