i may be wrong but i dont think harper's govt laid all those financial foundations based on which Canada withstood the recession.

You are right...it was liberals who handed over surplus economy to Harper. Canada did well amongst all other country (AS SAID) not because of Harper's policies but due to it natural resources (Oil, Potash, Gold, Nickel and so on).

These resources can jack the economy for a little while but not for long. It is manufacturing, retail, farming and allied industries that generate more jobs and are strength to an economy.

People are still out of job for a long time (excluding some IT folks) .

Giving majority to Harper is just like giving a sword to a monkey to guard its master. He will cut your throat one day, his actions and eyes clearly says so.

We sell oil to US but we pay more on gas stations, $1.35 per litre which amounts to $5.22 per gallon vs. $4 gallon in US. We fly down south to buy cheap and better stuff but reluctant to buy stuff here because it is 24% costlier in Canada even if one 1 CAD = 1.05$US.

Harper action sometime reminds me of Indira Gandhi who will do anything to bring down his opponents. I do not trust this man.

Let's take a look at the two serious contenders for a quick second (Jack Layton is a distant 3rd and no one wants a minority government again.) That leaves us with the Steven harper for Tories and Ignatieff for liberals.

1) My beef with Ignatieff is, he moves back to Canada in 2005, exactly 2 years after I moved to Canada! He is running for the office of prime minister and here I am getting all excited about getting to vote. :(

2) Ignatieff has lived outside Canada for a good 30 years. Meaning, he has missed the political developments and ground realities in Canada for a good 3 decades. Not healthy.

Perhaps Ignatieff is a nice person and sincere dude. But, how is he qualified to become the Prime minster of Canada, when i am not? ;)

We have a saying, “A known Devil is safer than an unknown devil”.

For all his faults, Harper is the safest bet at the moment.

I take your example....Seenappa, you are smart guy, honest, sincere....so this means you are not eligible to be Prime Minister of Canada or you can not run in an election because you have been here for 7 years........that does not sound reasonable to me.....should I term you as unknown devil or person without any canadian experience.

You are talking just like you and I was treated when we landed in this country....you do not have Canadian experience or any Canadian education...

I would prefer a minority government because you get best out these vultures.

Thank you Desi#1. Like you, I would like to believe that someday i can run for the PM's office;) .

Having said that, Layton/harper/Ignatieff/lovely Ruby dalla are NOT going to give immigrants jobs without asking for the canadian experience. This is not at their disposal(despite all the promises). Period. The discretion lies at the employer's table who look for the best fit(atleast as seen by them).

Layton/harper/Ignatieff/Ruby dalla are not going to give us the gas at 79 cents per litre. Those times are gone and dead.

Despite all their promises, L/H/I/R are not going to make things work the way we want. Remember, the magical Obama presidential elections?

The best outcome of this election will be a secure and stable government which will go to the elections once every 4 years.

where did I say these guys gives us jobs or cheaper gas? I was making comparison of so called booming economy someone mentioned. You are picking references from different quotes and merging with your answer. That is called politics.

I am not a consituent of Ruby Dhalla and I also not in love with her. :) There are other beautiful woman outside. I believe you live in her riding.

As far best fit in this country, it has many definitions (which suits the hiring manager). One of definition is which type of designation you have (for example CA or CGA or CMA), another one is which age group you fall in (35-40 or 40 above), and another one is are brown or white and so on. Atleast in India, they will tell you that they want a younger candidate.

If Harper believed in stable government, why did he voted Martin government down. Why did he try to form a coalition in 2004 with Jack and Guilles.

I want the best fit amongst this suckers and that is not possible in majority govt.

I absolutely believe that a minority Conservative Govt is the best. Harper is control freak and does not allow his ministers to even speak to media. He started courting minorities just because of election (which is a good thing) and if he gets majority , we are certainly in for raw deal
