Hi ,

I need to buy a pair of eyeglasses which would be covered by Insurance till $150-200 ... Obviously I would wish to get the maximum out of it .... Never had eye glasses made in Canada before ...

How much do the Opticians charge for eye vision testing and prescribing ? Do they look at existent glasses to find out the needed power (diopter) ?

Can CDs recommend some Opticians / Eye Glass stores who have reasonably priced eyeglasses .... in other words value for money ...

vision testing is aprox CAD 60.00. i get mine done in Sq 1. next to hakims. your company should cover one eye test every 2 years.

hakims is good. though this time i went to lens crafters in sq 1 again. on 2nd floor opposite Bay. reasonable rates. often frames are cheap but glasses expensive. you have to combine both yours and yours wifes benefits (thats if she is working also and subscribes to benefits at her work place)

i find my glasses always cost more, not cause the number is high but because the cheap frames are useless and you have to pay more to get decent brand names.....

Eye glass and frame are very expensive here. I got quote from Hakim and other opticians, they charge for frame from $200-$400 (depends on material,style etc) and $300 for glasses.

So I bought it from India because my insurance coverage is upto $200.

Huh ... So that means that I would not be able to get eye glasses for $200/- ......

I had read on Red Flag Deals forum that there are 3-4 very successful online eye glasses vendors who make glasser per prescription and the cost is $50 - $100/- ... Plus they are also approved and accepted by Insurance Companies ...

Does any one have experience with either online or regular opticals for eyeglasses < $200/- ? ... I was planning to buy ones with sunglasses clips .... the ones on top of which you can clip a pair of sunglasses .... Any cues ??

As a typical desi who would not like to spend an extra cent from the pocket but would like to get the best frame for the buck(Wink ! Wink!) you can go to Avenue Opticals which is right on the border of Mississauga/Brampton(on the Right Handside Plaza) when you go NORTH. It is on the same plaza of Tim Hortons. The court is to the left side.

Please meet Sharmaji(talk to him and be frank-do not assume anything) and get it sorted out. He has a eye doctor in Shoppers World and he can "Organize" your eye exam also for your whole family .

You should do the same for Dentist also in future. You should shop around and be frank up front in private conversation. They will cover your 10 or 15% payable for your family.

Practical advice !, Not politically correct and hope MR is not reading this post.
