How are automotives doing these days? I am looking into a potential opportunity from an automotive company. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
I am in finance.
Thanks

Simply put - Struggling very much.
If the company is publicly traded, you can check out their performance since 2008 to date.
More importantly, on a micro scale, for your potential employment stability, you could find out or ask the following:
How is the company diversified in its customer portfolio? Just the so called Big 3 or transplants as well?
How is the company diversified in its product portfolio? Supplies to only OEMs or caters to aftermarket and non-automotive customers with products that are common to automotive.
What kind of products does the company make/supply - commodity products or high tech innovative products? Example - commodity product would be, say, extruded trim. Niche products could be turbochargers or traction enhancing differentials, etc
How is the customer footprint geographically? Global or local?
A well diversified company has shown better promise of survival and growth than the tool and die makers and stamping facilities in and around Windsor that are dying faster than the fish flies.
On the brighter side, these companies seem to like the money people more than the engineers
Good luck.
