scope of automotive jobs

Which province provides best opportunities in automotive field in Canada? I am from India and I will start my masters program in fall 2015 in University of Windsor. I got an admit in masters in mechanical engineering but I heard from many students that Canada is best place for automotive engineers so I am planning to change my major program and pursue my study in automotive engineering.
please guide me about the scope of automotive/automobile engineers in Canada.
British Columbia or Ontario? which place is best for automotive.
Thanks in advance

Dimple 2001 will advise you shortly.
But one thing. Nothing is permanent. It all depends on timing.
If I were you, I would not reply too much on Automotive. There was a huge recession in 2009, which threw away most Automative jobs. Now Automotive is strong but it can turn weak soon.
The low price of oil is a curse on Canada but it may bring some automotive jobs from the US to here.

Try to be in a general field (like mechanical) where you can switch easily to a specific field (like Automotive) should the need arise.

Not much scope.

There was a time when GM , Chrysler & Ford - the Big 3 -had lot of manufacturing in ON & Quebec.

Not anymore..most of the plants have been closed & production has been moved to cheaper places like Mexico etc.

Lot of places like Detroit , Flint ( Michigan ) in US suffered bcoz of that.

Also lot of places like Oshawa , Windsor , St. Catharines in Ontario ..Canada also suffered bcoz of that.

But given a choice between BC & ON , ON is still much better for automotive industry & overall manufacturing in general ..but again its NOT that great to begin with.

When Karl Benz built the first vehicle to use an internal combustion engine in 1885 there were less than 1000 petrol-driven cars In the year 2000, there were more than 400million cars. There were over 750 million motor vehicles in the world in 2008. If present trends continue, the number of cars on this Earth will double in the next 30 years." The global number of cars exceeded 1.015 billion in 2010, jumping from 980 million the year before.

Though everyone knows the basic fundamentals of Engineering, the Engineering and the manufacturing is in a constant state of flux. So, there is research being conducted by a few in numerous locations. It is based upon such a research, either directly or indirectly based, is what is making this progress in the Automotive Industry. The developmental research still goes on and as time progresses the need for well educated people and the demand for them will still be there. It is an industry of the future.

Though the costs of production in a few countries have gone through the sky, because of the living standards, the demand for such vehicles and the production of these have increased all over the world. The affordability of these vehicles has increased many folds and had it not been for the Import restrictions with regards to the safety of the users, we would have many more brands of these and their showrooms in the American Continent.

Having taken Mechanical Engineering and having obtained an entry into the Windsor University in a co-op course, it will be wise to follow a path that will lead you into a profession that will be life long for you whether it be in the North American Continent or back home. Your stay at this location will be limited to a few years and it is a worthwhile course to take here in Canada. Also, there are sufficient Manufacturing units here in Ontario to conduct your study and complete such a course. Who knows where it will take you with the research you do. You will have a glorious future in any part of the world.

I am all for it, only if you are.

Currently the Automotive Industries are based in Oshawa, Oakville, Wood Stock, Windsor and a few areas nearby. BC is a location where most of the imports arrive and exports leave. I have no knowledge about the CKD's.

There are numerous other research facilities in the N.A. Continent.
