My 15 year old boy feels shy in speaking in front of alot of people. I was wondering if other people have the same problem and are there any classes where he can go to. We live in Scarborough.

I don't know about the classes, but the thing that helped me overcome stage fright when I was young was to read something aloud in front of the mirror.

He can then graduate reading in front of the family and so on. It helped me, hope it helps your son. Do let us know about the progress, if any.

Cheers!

I have no stage fright and what my parents did was to get me involved in a lot of extra-curricular activities as a child. I was in plays, dances, dramas in school and I remember I was scared in the beginning. But this process needs to start early IMO.

Its still not too late. Get your son involved in team activities, send him to camps, sports and slowly he WILL grow out of it.

Don't be disheartened. Moreover don't make your son feel like it is the end of the world. When he is shy, the last thing you want to do is to keep telling him he is so shy. It will just have a bad avalanche effect.

Lastly, sometimes they just naturally grow out of it. Give it some time but make sure you are doing your part in getting him engaged in things that might aide his development.

Good luck, don't worry. I am sure he will do well.

Toastmasters does not allow minors unless accompanied by adults. Some clubs run Youth oleadership programs but that is mostly in summer.
