Yes, help is available, and not too far usually in this case. Try:

Thanks Chandresh,

Are the Clubs of Toast Master really good? I heard about the Clubs but haven't got a chance to hear from someone who has joined the club.

Do you have any specific club that you can suggest?

Toastmasters is a worldwide organisation and a really respected one at that. I have been to two meetings on invitation and one of my friends has been a member for a long time. I have come across many professionals who have either been a member, or know about this organisation and speak good of it. The best thing is that the members are there to improve their public speaking - not to sell you something, which is normally the case in many social clubs.

But at the same time, it is a great place to network - and I am thinking of joining it soon.

The best way to start is to visit a club nearest to you. They allow guests - and you can do it a few times before deciding to become a member. Sometimes people visit 2 or 3 clubs in the vicinity and then decide which one they like more.

Dear Mr.Chandresh,

Thank you for sharing good website.its useful for us.

Welcome Ashwin.

An interesting thing I experienced at one of my guest visits to a club in New Market:

The organiser of a particular event distributed the whole crowd of about 35 persons in groups of 6 each or so. They all sat down in their separate groups facing different directions in the hall. Then the organisor asked one person from a group to stand in front of the group and simply look at the group for 2 minutes without speaking a word. The person was allowed to keep looking (staring) at one person of the group or look at all togather, or keep changing from one to another. After those eternal 2 minutes (believe me 2 minutes can be very very very long!!!), the person came back to his/her seat, and the next person in the group did the same thing.

The purpose of the exercise/game was to see what kind of vibrations one gets when he is in company of another person. I could not believe what I experienced through out the game - both when I was standing and looking at the group, as well as when others were looking at me. The emotions and vibrations were different for each person and it kept changing each moment too. At times, you feel extremely comfortable looking at the person for long, and with the other person you just might want to take away your eyes after a moment. And mind you, many of those people did not know each other, so there were not many biased feeelings!

This is a game one can try at home with friends or preferably persons whom you have not known much (I should have done it two weeks back at my home when I invited 5 different families for the first time to my house and they did not know each other - infact I met Mishter India for the first time at my doorstep then!). Such an exercise will help you understand how you can feel (fear, pleasentness, shyness, boldness etc.) when you face someone - and that is a very good exercise for public speaking.

Infact we should do this during the next CD meeting/picnic or whatever!!!

Thanks again,

I like your idea to visit couple of clubs and then decide which one to join.
