Is obtaining Canadian citizenship ultimate goal in life for desis in Canada? When I read what Prash wrote (H1B moving to Canada), I was baffled. Is this the ultimate goal of desis?
Especially for some IT people it may be so.
The kind of people who fall into this catagory are people in the 7th or more year of H-1B and who earn more than 100K in USA and who are not at all near to getting a greencard. For them the goal is to come to Canada, get into some IT job, complete 3 years, Get Citizenship and then move to USA to be in a very good job.
However, the people speaking this may not have any kind of idea as to what kind of place Canada is for IT. They may come in, stay for 3 years and may even like Canada to be a better place than USA and then may even decide to stay in Canada permanently.
You have to know that IT people and Non IT people really have 2 diff. view points.

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
I am in same category (H1 visa completing 6 yrs in USA and now in Canada).
For few weeks/can say months we did not like in Canada and everything looks very expensive even CAD$ is doing good but prices are not going down. When we moved from Vancouver to Calgary then we are feeling good here.
Down the line in 3 yrs if someone buys the home, kids start going pre-school here, love the job then may be lot of people will not go back to US. But I know there are few of my friends and they are waiting for 3 yrs to complete. It also depends upon what type of IT job you are doing. I can say there are lot of IT areas where it's not easy to find job in Canada. But I think now days salary differences are not too much in Canada and US. Taxes make the difference.
Here one thing very few people know even getting Canadian citizenship will not help in US GC. You can not file US GC on TN visa. For H1 visa again you have to kiss bastard body shoppers' asses who are sitting all over US and wait for 3-4 or may be more for US GC.
Hi desi in ottawa,
I happened to see this thread today and since you referred to my post here, I am responding. I liked the responses from tamilkuravan and rahul_singh23, I think both of you made a very good point.
What I wrote in my /H1B moving to Canada/ thread is something which I am planning for next 3-4 years of my life, which is making use of Canadian PR that I have got (before it expires). During my stay in Canada, I might decide to make it my home or plan to get back to US/India based on how I and my family like the place. I don't know how you can decipher this as /obtaining Canadian citizenship is the ultimate goal/.
Thanks
Prash
