Toronto - Montreal - day 1
Montreal - Bar Harbour - day 2 - 3 Make prior reservation for the ferry.
Bar Harbour - Yarmouth - day 4 Ferry has slot machines now?
Yarmouth N.S - Halifax - day 5 6 7 8 make trip to Halifax - Cape Breton -Sydney Thro' -Canso - to Digby. Lots to see.
Digby - St.John NB - day 9 (Old Towns- currently flood hit areas) Skip if not suitable.
St.John - Moncton - day 10 leisurely drive. See the Magnetic Hill.
Moncton - PEI - day 10 - 11 Nice beach and the New Bridge. Enjoy the 9th wonder.
Charlottetown - Riviere de Loup Long long drive keep 16 hours that day for driving.
RDL - Montreal - day 12
Montreal - Toronto - day 13.
Toronto - day 14 You will need that rest and recouperation.

Total Cost of Gas - $1200 ( Wash and Oil included Get one oil change at the far

Cost of CAR Ferry and slot machines and hangover - $600
Cost of hotels $100 per day inclusive of meals snacks and sundry expenses.

Total Cost 3K for two for two weeks. If you have two good drivers, then you will enjoy it even better. If you have budgeted GPS Navigation TTV, then go for the high end machine. If you enjoy eating fresh fish, you will have a feast. If you are vegetarian, then carry your own - heat and serve. If you are not fit for boat rides, then take the long way out. Add another three days to the trip or do twelve hour days. All of these are based on, 8 hour driving, 8 hour sight seeing and 8 hour rest. Start your day early.. at FIVE A.M. if you can, Then you will see the sunrise all over there.
If you have an additional week to spare, then go from Sydney to Port aux Basque,
You will see an old American Base there at Stephenville?. (Another Air Port there) Cornerbrook - (St.Anthony?) - Springdale - Windsor - Clarenville - St.John's (The other one in NFLD) and retrace back to Sydney - five days are enough but give a days break for good measure. Ever heard of homes on stilts? No not since Japanese Bamboo huts. You will enjoy the rustic life. Like salt Cod and Pork scraps? then you are in for a good meal. Don't forget the Signal Hill and the Windsor Castle Hotel.
Carry alternate road guides, trip ticks, a nice tool kit, 12 volt car air pump, a first aid kit, flares and of course a Cell Phone. Don't forget the Ice Chest. Make sure they have service all over Canada for the Cell.

Now you know what Canada is all about. At least the East Coast and how the other half lives... Tough life... Maintain a LOG and your observations. Take a lot of pictures for Memories.

Thanks Freddie. After reading your note, I am going to go for this. Is Summer the best time for the drive or Autumn?

It will be a great trip if you can muster enough people that the vehicle can hold. We took the trips during the school break and it was summer. Also saw torrents of rain in some sections of the APPALACHIAN mountains, with wipers doing the max. Took breaks at times at the REST (non service) areas as the windows started to fog. 100% humidity does that some times. We also camped at Augusta Maine at the KOA, we are Members of that group and availed their cottages. Cost of gas was 89 cents in Canada, and about 70+ in the States. Had to pay tolls all the way too. about $10 each way.
Ferry ride was Super. We had to get three rooms for our stay. We stopped every three hours for an hour, break for the hungry ones. Some of the phones did not work in the USA. That was ONE trip.

The other one was to NFLD through PEI and via Port Hawkesbury (Canso) Sydney and to Port aux Basques to St.John's NFLD. We even stopped for a few hours for fishing and caught COD fish, a Cat Fish too, ugly, but threw them back as we did not have the camping gear. This time we skipped Halifax. We went through the Minas basin through Truro in NS. Saw the greatest of the Tides there at FUNDY. What a waste of the natures powerful resources. Awesome !!

Canada has a lots of resources, yet untapped and is begging to be used. May be one of these days.....I will do it again, if time permits. I don't want to mis the sun rises, the bank of fogs and skipping the mad rush of the heavy traffic and a nice breakfast on the way in a remote place on the road. That is A holiday.

Thanks for all the info. Btw, What is there are at Digby and Saint John? Looking at the map, I am thinking of cutting that part and instead get into PEI thru ferry from Pictou. Any advice?

You should make a trip through these places when they hold a Festival. You will get to see everything that is there to see on such a day. It repeats at the next one too.

Our trip through to Digby was to visit the Annapolis valley towns, to see and gather information. We also saw Fundy National Park, Alma and Mary's Point before heading for Moncton. There is a small Indian community from home whom we wanted to meet on our way.

You have to make your selection of places to visit and make an attempt to see at least some of the attractions there. Just the drive through the Cabot Trail on a journey like this, will make the trip worthwhile.
