I am using Rogers services - home phone, internet and cable. Till date havent faced any problem. And since i,ve three services from Rogers so i get bundle discount as well. (chk out nowadays Rogers is giving lots of discounts on new connections )
Although there are some other cheap internet service providers too but i choose to go to Rogers.
For long distance to India/USA, if you need crystal clear voice then go for Reliance, i am using it from long time and no problem at all, its just that you have to pay a little extra compare to others, but upto you.

Rogers offer most of the time comes with the hidden costs. They never disclose the recurring costs. The recurring costs are not charged by Bell atleast for land line. These days rogers are are giving 40$ credit on new land line connection, but u need to sign for a long distance service which costs atleast 20$.
Hence read the fine print before u make a deal.

http://www.relianceindiacall.com" rel="nofollow">LINK
There are hundreds of posts regarding relianceindiacall on this site. please search.
But obviously this is for long distance only, not phone service in itself. So you still have to have existing home phone/cellular service.

G3 telecom auto recharge is the cheapest option and the voice quality is very very good. (11.9c/min) There is no crap like reconnection fee etc, you pay for what you talk..Also you get 5$ free after 100$ of usage.

To call USA/Canada Long distance use Skype it is FREE
If the people you are calling in India have atleast a 64k internet connection then there is no other option better than this.

open a skypeout account. Calling to Canada is 2.4c/min. you buy a 14$ account (There is no GST/PST as Skype is no Canadian). For 14$ you get around 905 mins of talk time.
Next time when you want to call home give them a missed call and they will use skype and call you on your phone. You do not beed to be near the computer or internet.

This works out best for me as i call my parents when they are at home and we have internet at home.

Yahoo gives 1c/min calling to Canada but the voice quality is not satisfactory, with Skye the voice quality is as good as phone if you and they use decent quality headphones.
I have a skype account and a g3 auto recharge account..
