Dude.... You are making me to go back to Trichy....:) :) :)
TK, I very well remember the whole story of the bus rampage..
Since I lived most of my life near Gandhi Market / Palakarai area before KK Nagar, I took my tuitions locally in Palakarai with a person by name Adaikalam.

With St. Joseph's I still remember
Seeval ice
There is a kind of unique ice cream a guy sells (I remember his face still)..
Gundu Arokyam in St. Joseph's
Sebastian
Roin.. lots of lots of people to speak about...... real fun huh..
My school life in st.Joseph's was undoubtedly more enjoyable than my college in JMC.

Did you know that Bus. no. 9 started the rampage from our school (Collector office to be more specific). Someone threw stones at the bus, broke the front glass and dazed the driver. That was the story.
Who also can forget the Seeval Ice, Jill Jill Jigarthanda at Ghandhi market....

Hello Guys!
very glad that many Trichy and other nearby areas are in Toronto or planning to migrate. We can have a get together soon. I have not heard of the tution master arokiyam.
When i was in Trichy 4 years ago, lot of things have changed. The area around Maris theatre (which was agricultural) is now all high class residences.
Trichy used to be the small town which was not crowded by filled with highly educated people. It was a cantonment. My fathere studied in Bishop Heber School (Tamil) and also Jamal Mohd. College (when he was kicked out from Bishop Heber for insulting teachers).
When i came in 1983 from Africa and joined Vestry school, fellow classmates used to isolate me by calling me an African and that i could not sit near them for i was an African. I was finally accepted into their group after 2 or 3 years.
Kohinoor theatre was a favourtie haunt for us in college times (we would not dare use it during school times). Also Theppakulam was the T Nagar of Chennai for pavement shopping.
And who could forget Saratha's, The clothing store which sold cloths at the lowest rate and Chakra Tailor in Thillainagar who introduced fashion for the teenagers. Elegant Tailors was the fashion statement of Teenagers before Charka.
I donot know if you have heard of Kulumaiyamman Thiruvizha every year at nachiyar kovil. The temp. shopping line used to extend to 5 kms. We were given rs.5 (in 1984) for shopping and we used to spend it on Yoyo (50 np.), 100 loose crackers (rs. 2), Sweets (rs. 2.50). And we have free neer more in the pandal. It was sweet memories.

Disclaimer : This is my personal experience. I was an indian citizen then and came from Africa and that might have been a reason why i found such little things to be the greatest things that happened in my life. By this posting i donot nessarily mean that you will enjoy Trichy the same way that i did. Please contact the Tourism board of Tamilnadu- Trichy chapter for more accurate information. Trichy can be a hot place and i would advise you to keep your self hydrated before roaming in thesun there. Also the steps leading to the rock fort temple to are steep and 300 steps +. It is also regularly watered and is slippery. Old people and children should use it with extreme caution and climb at your own risk.

OMG !

Guys from the land of Sujatha(Rangarajan)!

You guys are from the place where one of the greatest Chola civilization ruled Asia extending from Indonesia in the far east. They were the reason that Ramayana is still a dance form in Indonesia, and we have Lord Ganesha in their currency.

You are taking me down the memory lane, with the beautiful Kaveri flowing, extending itself to Srirangam, Chidambarams beautiful Nataraja Temple, going further to Sirkahzi, Tanjore, Kumbakonam and the place of my dreams for January every year Thirvaiyaru.

It is said the best conossieurs of Carnatic music are from there and even the bullock cart driver can pick flaws in a seasoned musicians performance. The mirasadar of Tanjore - Moopanar was a great supporter of carnatic music.

I think good music/appreciation should be in your blood ! who are from the land of musical trinity - St.Thyagaraja/Shyama Shastri and Muthusami Dikshithar.

Keep up the good work and keep our flag flying!

Endoro Maghanu Bhavulu - Andharaki Vandhanamu !

S,
Thanks for your valuable input.
yes. I forgot to mention that we used to travel in Cholan transport corp. buses then. My mother ( A Tamil Teacher) taught me about Chola, Cheran , Pandava and Pallavar's. My hair used to sizzle whenever i ride these buses. After 15-20 odd years, all these names have been removed (due to caste violence) and renamed at State corp.. Luckily , they did not remove Valluvar's cuoplets in these buses.
Since i was in Architecture, we used to go to Tanjore temple just to hang out.

Sidenote : S, thank you talaivare for your below mentioned post. I have brought 2 pai's from india and sleep on that mostly.

Guys whenever you get together please do not forget the Kumbakonum Kozhundu Vethalai, Cheeval, Pakku and Sunnambu.

Please include a good Visiri as it might be hot and humid in summer in toronto. Can we find a nice Thinnai for our Gossip Kutcheri !. I'm a big fan of Kalki(the author) for his description of your area. I miss Kalki, amuthasurabi and other great magazines and also great novels.

Unfortunately I'm from your sister college in Chennai called Loyola College(the best ladies college from Chennai-Justu Joking).

I've travelled far and wide in your pettai for enjoying this beautiful Gods country. I feel like a Mitta Minor after this reading this topic.

S(hankarachary)A,

Nice to see your Post.

Though I am not very familiar with Carnatic songs, still I enjoyed Sindhu Bairavi songs like anything....

But I am a deep lover of Ilayaraja's Music...Man his Music is amazing..even his latest hits from Pitha Mangan (Elangathu Veesuthey), Ramanaa(Vanaville)..
I used to manitain my collection of more than 500 Ilayaraja's songs.. I even like his BG music esp.., Mani Ratnam's movies.. well there is a lot lot lot .. I can keep talking about the songs from the Great Musician of this age.

I enjoy Tamil films invariably of the age including Shivaji's, MR Radha, Chandrababu.. to the latest Rajnikanth's Movies.. Chandramukhi was a superb man.
Man tell me..Whoz the Super Star of Tamil Nadu now.. Is it Rajni,..Kamal...Vijay...Ajeeth...NO...
Its actually Vadivelu.. You should see his body language in couple of his last movies including Giri, Chandramuki, Winner (awesome comedy track)..
This time, I found every kid seem to imitate Vadivelu's dialogue than Rajni kanth .. something like........ Mappu Vachutanda Aaappu... My 4 year old kid laughs like anything when she see Vadivelu's comedy though it is just about last six months she has been watching his movies.

Katta dorai confrontation in Winner.... Bellbottom Mudhalali (Giri)

Wish we should get together sometime and play all this clips one weekend evening and have an excellent time with some Pot Luck...........I bet the Canada stress will fly away..I hope it would happen some time soon....

I was listening to Rayil Panangalil (TR Music) songs while typing this reply...

Regards,
JRF.
