Sarvana Bhavan - I was there. The food is no good. I have been to Sarvana bhavan chain of restaurants - many a times in Chennai and other cities in Tamilnadu. Trust me this one is lousy. And expensive too. The rice they served us there is Chinese rice - not the good quality. Franchisee is making $ $$ big time.
Go there if you wish to make a hole in your pocket.
I am sure you shall surely get better a better deal elsewhere.

i've been to saravana bhavan and i too feel the same way.
but the only place which i can say best is UDIPI in jerrard street with same standards as their indian branches.
in my view,
best layout, interior --> The Host (mississauga)
best south indian food --> Udipi

I am not Bossy! I just have better ideas!!
I went there last week. Its an experience NOT to be repeated. I asked for Vegetable Dosa and filling was only of onion masala and full of oil. Then I asked for their famous Fried Idli. The bowl had 6 small idli pieces and rest was filled with onion masala and oil. After eating overdose of oninon and oil it took 2 days for my stomach to get back normal. The whole restaurant is very unorganized and dress of waiters reminds me "Mundu's" in local side shops in Bangalore. No offence is meant. You can avoid....but afterall its your choice.
It is not about Sarvana Bhavan. I ate 2 samosas in a restraurant in Eglinton Ave in Mississauga. I have eaten samosas at 2 other places in Mississauga and Brampton. Why only samosas? Actually it is the cheapest item on the menu.
It almost had no salt and no masalas. Even after frying it after taking out from freezer, you can feel that the aalo is still cold. Do indians in Canada become used to such bland taste, no salt, no masala or chilli?

You bet the samosas . .diced pieces of alloo, half cooked, peas - uncooked Man o man - they seem to have been made for mars expedition. Hey that reminds me - do not have vada pavs - that is dangerous stuff to - You would wonder whether you asked for the right thing!!!

No good is Udupi Palace, Madras Dosa Hut, Dosa corner, Madras Palace. Saravana Bhavan I tell you is the best though very very expensive but i dont mind. I get good fresh food. Village of India in Mississauga and Indian Chef in Scarborough - both these joints have good Punjabi food and it would just cost about 10 dollars per person.
I also hate the Saravana bhavan Uniform for waiters- Mofussil bus stand eating outlet uniform. Even the ambience is no good. Wash basin - Hand wash board- all these remind us of typical south indian hotels near railyway stations and Bus stand. You may slip and fall - no carpet and it is very slippery. I have seen many slip and fall. The owner is not bothered. The waiters all students , I came to know are paid just very low per hour rate and tips in full pocketed by the owner himself.
Are you sure the tips are pocketed by the owner? Is that even legal? Please tell us how you know this... if it's true than at least I'll stop leaving a tip there. That really makes me angry... a tip is for a waiter's services, not an owners greed. The reason waiters make such a low hourly wage is because by the time tips are factored in, they are normally the highest paid workers in a restaurant. That's just crummy.
