As for crenshaw being obsessive and stubborn, I dont think thats true as I know him personally and agree to his views. You cant blame a person if he calls a spade a f***in spade.

Amen! He may sound a bit harsh to some, but:) he brings the much needed "other side of the coin", without people like him desis reading the forum would think that Canada has nothing to offer. This is far from the truth for people like him and me, and plenty others, who love this place.

But as they say, perspective is king.

So load, lock and fire away :)

Crenshaw,

I'll try to respond to your post the best I can.

You said:

On May 4, 2005, you say its not about the English language. You agree (in your post of Feb 28, 2005) that \"employers are looking for professionals that not only know their technical skills but also have the ability to communicate\". Does this communication process not take place in English in BC?........
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes I said all those things including above. What I wrote above were generalized statements. Communication includes english however isnt limited to it. I know from my own day to day work with clients that having language barriers are not the only things keeping professional immigrants from finding employment. I think there are systemic barriers in place that are the responsibility of the government and employers (which means media as well - how are foreign professionals portrayed in general society? Something to consider) especially in regulated professions such as engineering, Medicine, Nursing, Law, etc.

yes, I am an employment counsellor, however I am also married to a professional Immigrant. My family is of immigrants. I have lived in the reality of the immigrant perspective as a daughter and wife etc.

Crenshaw you undermine yourself when you respond to people's genuine thoughts and then insult them.

Oh, so you think comments like \"Canada is a place of uneducated personnels (sic)\" are reasonable that everyone has to agree with?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No... I think the individual making that comment was generalizing based on his own experience. Perhaps he was frustrated and made this comment in that mood. How can you be certain?

I am not trying to create an animosity with you. I commented as I did above because you pick apart people's words...umm...are you a lawyer by any chance ? :D :D

All comments generally have logic flaws in them..if one is inclined to search for those flaws. You find what you seek.

You might consider yourself uneducated, I won't, so any comments of that sort will always elicit a response from me!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No..I dont consider myself uneducated. I may not be as highly educated as yourself..but I do have a degree in Anthropology as well as a degree in Social Work.

They struggle daily like you do.

Its probably getting fashionable on this board for people to say that they 'struggle' in Canada. I don't, thank you!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I cant comment too much on this because I dont know the experiences of immigrants first hand. Are you an Immigrant? I find all of life..no matter where you come from can be a struggle at times. If you dont struggle..then you are lucky. I take back my words that you struggle :)

Thanks though..for giving me the chance to really analyse and review my thoughts in this discussion.

Oh I love all the people who sit on the fence and clap. No sport is complete without the spectators.

Especially when you have people from outer space.

Cheers mercury6 !!!

I agree... I love Canada because its my home. I have heard the 'hatred' from websites/other people but I want to learn about their experiences instead of just inciting further anger and frustration. You can show the other side of the coin in many ways.

A person can be cynical and sarcastic or can choose to react differently in showing Canada to be a nice place. That is just my thought. Look at it another way- its like being an ambassador to a country..that person's behavior sort of represents their country.

What does Canada represent?

I remember going to a comedy festival once..and the comedian said something to the effect that Canada is like 'big brother'to the US.. When the US gets pouty with another country etc, Canada steps in and trys to be the peacemaker..

I can laugh at Canada..in fact there is a very good book out there called\"How to be a canadian\"..its written by two brothers and its one of the funniest reads I have ever come across.

:) peace
