Hi folks,
I have been pondering over this for a long time. Probably it's an idea, who's time has come. All we want is takers - people who will trust, share, invest, and work towards a common goal.
Not a day goes by, without someone writing about how bad the employment situation is, in Canada - especially for educated, skilled and even experienced professionals from India. I have written much about the need to be focussed, think positively, seek inspiration from fellow Indians who have been successful in their career, or have transitioned into a different field comfortably.
I have been doing some homework on why South Asians (esp Indians and Pakistanis) find it extremely difficult to find work in their line of work. I have been to different resource centers in the GTA, and rarely do I find a Korean, African, Chinese or white canadian (no racism meant here) looking for work.
I have also walked back memory lane, to think of those few instances when I looked for work with our desi's who are well established. I remember that the only typical responses I got from them were cliched " well you are over qualified", " I am also interviewing others, and will get in touch by next week" (the phone would never ring), or " Can yo call me tomorrow?" (many tomorrows later, one still doesn't have an answer.
The straight simple truth is that - Unlike Koreans or Chinese, the established person from india i will not offer work to a fellow desi. We could go on until the end of time for why they won't, but that will not serve the purpose.
What I am proposing here is for people who are like minded,skilled, resourceful, looking for work to get together and start joint ventures which could not only earn money for them, but also hire others from back home. Now the question would be hard is this to do. I don;t believe it to be a cakewalk, but it's not impossible either. Rather than work in sweatshops for meagre amounts of money, it would be a good idea to pool our resources, skills (and money where needed), and start something mutually beneficial.
I would welcome ideas and suggestions.
I dont think that desi's are in a position to help their community. So called successful desi immigrant are themselves struggling to keep their job intact. Do you think that they will introduce competition in their workplace.

Joint ventures/partnership require commitment, trust and teamwork. Most desis lack all! That is my experience.
All will tell you they are interested and committed but none will follow up and do anything. And even if you bring them opportunity to show your commitment, they will be first in line to stab you in the back and bypass you in the heartbeat. Gone thru this and will never do it again ...
What I learnt that be very cautious dealing with desis, whether as a customer, partner or supplier.
