The reply given by Goldeneye is very good.

I would like to quote myself as an example. Landed in Canada in May 2004 and stayed in Markham. Honestly speaking nothing went my way. Eventually decided to get out of that place and move to Stratford. Almost everyone who knew us disagreed with our decesion. They said that both of us will get factory jobs (one thing which we never wanted to get into). Reached Stratford in Nov 2004 and now April 2005, By the Grace of God I have a gas station and also a job in my field. Leaving a decent job in Kuwait and coming to Canada was one step and getting out of Markham/GTA was the second step.

Canada is not just GTA. If things don't go well there then get out of there. All those who land here have taken a brave step of coming here but if things do not go your way, try another city/province in Canada before you give up on your Canadian Dream.

Good luck to everyone and God bless everyone just the same way as HE has kept HIS hand on our heads.

...........and taking informed decisions unlike Immigrants say 10 years back .

Hmm, so all immigrants who came here 10 years ago, took uninformed decisions?

I kind of agree with the critics as the place unfit for intellegensia.

....and the so-called 'intelligentsia' don't know how to spell the word?

Where PhDs and High School passouts do the same job theres is certainly something amiss professionally .

Reflects poorly on the Phd.

However if u r nt a pro nerd and seek better living conditions the place may not disappoint u .

Quite unintentionally, you got that right!

If you aren't a 'nerd' this might be the place for you.

Definition of nerd from http://www.dictionary.com:" rel="nofollow">LINK "A foolish or inept person".

This is really sad , I think Canada does not care or appreciate the poweress of Human talent , No wonder they are lacking in growth compared to european / South American nations .
I find US more condusive and open to immigrants

Sorry, having lived in the US for about 6 out of the last 7 years, I have to disagree. Ask anyone who has lived in US on H1B without getting a green card, especially with a wife on a H4, and they will tell you. I felt much more welcome in Canada than in US.

As you know, if you want to get a US Green Card, the only way for most of us is to have an employer sponsor you while you're on a work-permit, and God knows how long it takes these days. Till then you're at the mercy of the immigration as well as your employer. Every time you extend your visa and/or change status and make a trip to India, you aren't sure if you will be able to return again. And the plight of your dependent spouse on a H4 visa is far worse. I don't want to go through that again!!

Sorry to go off-topic, and I know US-Canada comparisons have been discussed endless times, but I had to say it. US is no longer the 'immigrant-friendly country' it used to be.

Thanks for the corrections Crenshaw ,

1 was a typo and the other unintentional. BTW its PhD .

I agree guys US isnt the place it used 2 b with the GC process getting delayed .Hence more US H1B holders queuing for Can Migration . However as we have dscsd this on other threads it is profesionally different and far more accepting than Canada.

Some1 suggested earlier -- stay in Canada , get Citizenship, go 2 US on TN earn money in 5-6 years and come back ........

its a bit surprising that people who have been on H1 for 6 yrs do not get their GC processed especially if they work with the same employer. It generally takes 4 yrs and max 5 so really i think if you plan well and stick it out most people have got the GC.

And if one is not into IT, Canada can offer a stiff resistance to people migrating without local experience as people know now. The demand is really for hands-on skills e.g. plumber. carpenter and i see these people getting work very easily. So unless one is into IT, i would think that welcoming is too positive a word for Canada. Sure, you can get in, but again, if one is not into IT, then the bills start mounting from day 1 and very quickly.

6. The best thing I can suggest to any one with such frustrations/ feelings is that they should only come to Canada if they have a job offer , or atleast if they have a couple of interview offers based on their background . OR come over here and face the music as we all faced.

music!!! Oh No, Dont call it music... puhleeezzzz :(

Immigrant landed with family with No job in hand, is such a big pressure. That s why they say, if one sustains one/two years of such hardships here, then no looking back. Otherwise I think, that is perhaps the best time to go back too, if one cant sustain!
